About this Developer Community Manager role at You.com

You.com · Hybrid · San Francisco, CA (Hybrid)

About Us

At You.com, we are building the AI Search Infrastructure that powers modern AI systems. Our goal is to create the trusted knowledge layer that agents, applications, and enterprises rely on to retrieve real-time, accurate, and citation-backed information.

Our platform combines proprietary vertical indexes with LLM-optimized retrieval systems to power AI agents, applications, and enterprise workflows. We are solving hard problems across search, large language models, and large-scale infrastructure to make AI systems more reliable, transparent, and useful.

Our team includes engineers, researchers, product builders, and operators who care about solving meaningful problems and delivering real-world impact. Whether you are improving core infrastructure, shaping product experiences, or helping bring new AI capabilities to market, your work will help define how modern AI finds and uses knowledge.

About the Role

In this role, you will create meaningful reasons for developers to engage with You.com and with each other — through events, workshops, hackathons, partnerships, online communities, and ongoing programming. You will build strong local communities in San Francisco and New York while helping turn those relationships into product adoption, advocacy, and long-term affinity for You.com.

You will work closely with DevRel, Product, Marketing, Partnerships, and Sales to connect our developer community directly to the products we are building and the problems developers are trying to solve.

This role is for someone who genuinely enjoys being part of technical communities, knows how to bring the right people together, and understands that a great developer community isn't measured by how many people show up — it's measured by what they build, whether they come back, and whether they bring others with them.

Responsibilities

  • Own You.com's developer community strategy and programming in San Francisco and New York City, establishing a consistent presence in two of the world's most important AI ecosystems
  • Build relationships with AI engineers, founders, researchers, technical leaders, developer groups, startups, universities, and other influential members of the local developer ecosystem
  • Develop a regular cadence of high-quality community programming, including meetups, technical workshops, hackathons, builder dinners, office hours, and other formats that developers genuinely want to attend
  • Turn You.com's SF and NYC hubs into destinations for the AI builder community, creating recurring opportunities for developers to learn, build, and connect
  • Partner with DevRel and Product to create hands-on experiences that get developers building with You.com's APIs, reducing the distance between attending a community event and making a first API call
  • Identify and cultivate community champions and power users who can become advocates, contributors, speakers, and long-term partners for You.com
  • Build relationships with complementary developer platforms, AI communities, accelerators, open-source projects, and ecosystem partners to expand our reach
  • Maintain an authentic presence in the online communities where AI developers spend their time, including X, LinkedIn, GitHub, Discord, Hacker News, and emerging communities
  • Create feedback loops between the developer community and our Product and Engineering teams, surfacing recurring questions, friction points, use cases, and product opportunities
  • Partner with Marketing to amplify the people, projects, demos, and stories emerging from our community
  • Develop scalable community programs that allow You.com to support builders beyond individual events
  • Establish clear goals and measurement across community growth, event participation, API signups, activation, product usage, advocacy, and community-sourced pipeline
  • Represent You.com at developer conferences, meetups, hackathons, and other technical community events

Qualifications

  • Experience building or managing a developer, technical, startup, or AI community
  • Strong existing relationships within the AI and developer ecosystem, particularly in San Francisco and/or New York
  • Demonstrated ability to create events and programs that technical audiences choose to participate in repeatedly
  • Strong understanding of how developers discover, evaluate, adopt, and advocate for developer tools and APIs
  • Technically fluent enough to have credible conversations with engineers about APIs, AI agents, LLMs, developer infrastructure, and modern AI application development
  • Comfortable getting hands-on with developer products and learning enough to demonstrate and discuss them authentically
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage developers without sounding like traditional corporate marketing
  • Experience collaborating across DevRel, Product, Marketing, Partnerships, and Sales
  • Highly proactive and comfortable building programs from scratch rather than inheriting an established community playbook
  • Data-driven approach to community building, with an understanding of how community engagement can translate into product adoption, retention, advocacy, and pipeline
  • Experience in AI infrastructure, developer tools, APIs, or open-source communities strongly preferred
  • Active participation in developer or AI communities is a plus
