About this Deployed Engineer, Enterprise Systems role at Juul Labs
THE COMPANY:
Juul Labs's mission is to transition the world’s billion adult smokers away from combustible cigarettes, eliminate their use, and combat underage usage of our products. We have the opportunity to address one of the world’s most intractable challenges through a commitment to exceptional quality, research, design, and innovation. Backed by leading technology investors, we are committed to the same excellence when it comes to hiring great talent.
We are a diverse team that is united by this common purpose and we are hiring the world’s best engineers, scientists, designers, product managers, operations experts, and customer service and business professionals. If the opportunity to build your career is compelling, read on for more details.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enterprise AI Systems team owns the systems that run Juul Labs’ core business — ERP, HRIS, Quality & Regulatory, CRM, and IT Service Management — and is rebuilding how those systems are built, changed, and maintained. Instead of manual configuration and ticket-driven support, we treat system configuration as code: version-controlled, tested, deployed through CI/CD pipelines, and increasingly built with the help of AI coding agents under human review. The Forward Deployed Engineer, Enterprise Systems role sits at the intersection of business systems knowledge, software engineering practice, and applied AI — closer to a DevOps or forward-deployed engineering role than a traditional IT support role.
- Build Configuration-as-Code (CaC) for our core enterprise systems — ERP, HRIS, Quality/Regulatory, CRM, and ITSM — so system changes are version-controlled, tested, and deployed like software rather than configured by hand.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows for business systems configuration and integration changes.
- Build human-in-the-loop (HITL) review steps so AI-generated configuration and code changes are validated before they reach production.
- Evaluate and operationalize AI coding agents to accelerate configuration work, integration builds, and regression testing — and help define where these tools can safely take on work currently done by contractors.
- Build reusable, automated test scripts and regression suites for core business systems, reducing manual testing effort on every release.
- Design and maintain integrations between enterprise systems (ERP, HRIS, Quality/Regulatory, CRM, ITSM) using REST, SOAP, EDI, and middleware tools.
- Partner with stakeholders such as Finance, Supply Chain, Quality/Regulatory, HR, and Sales to translate business requirements into automated, auditable system changes.
- Maintain data integrity, security, and compliance (including SOX and ITGC controls) across all automated pipelines and configuration changes.
- Document system architecture, data flows, and pipelines so both technical and non-technical stakeholders can follow how changes move from idea to production.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of experience in enterprise systems engineering, DevOps, or business systems development, including hands-on ownership of at least one major ERP, HRIS, CRM, Quality/Regulatory, or ITSM platform in a live production environment.
- Solid working knowledge of how data and processes flow across enterprise systems (i.e., you understand ERP/HRIS-style data schemas and cross-system dependencies, even if you haven’t used our specific tools).
- Hands-on experience building CI/CD pipelines and using Git for version-controlled deployments.
- Experience with — or strong, demonstrated interest in — using AI coding agents or agentic engineering tools on real production work, not just as a novelty.
- Proficiency in SQL, with experience building automated test scripts and regression suites for large data sets.
- Experience with API and integration technologies (REST, SOAP, EDI) and middleware tools.
- Working knowledge of relevant compliance frameworks (SOX, ITGC; quality/regulatory system experience is a plus).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — you can explain a technical tradeoff to a non-technical business stakeholder and vice versa.
EDUCATION:
- BS degree in Computer Science or related engineering field, or equivalent experience
