Job Summary:

Administers, maintains, and optimizes enterprise Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server environments by managing performance, security, recoverability, and high-availability to ensure stable, scalable, and compliant operations. Evaluates database architecture and emerging technologies, establishes technical standards and procedures, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to strengthen reliability, resilience, and continuity of enterprise systems.

Job Description:

  • Administers and maintains enterprise environments, to ensure reliable, secure, and high performing Oracle and SQL Server platforms through monitoring, tuning, capacity management, and lifecycle maintenance.

  • Implements and oversees database security, compliance and data-protection controls, including access management, encryption, auditing, patching, vulnerability remediation, and adherence to organizational and regulatory requirements to safeguard data and reduce risk exposure.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to support database architecture, system changes, upgrades, and technology initiatives to promote consistent, efficient, and supportable database operations.

  • Establishes and maintains database administration and operational standards, and knowledge resources including procedures, configuration documentation, runbooks, and technical knowledge to promote consistent and supportable operations.

  • Follows established company policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.

  • Participates in storm response, emergency restoration, disaster recovery activities, and assigned preparedness drills to support safe and reliable recovery of services.

  • Participates in scheduled after-hours maintenance and on-call or emergency support activities for critical database incidents, disaster recovery, and service restoration, as required.

  • Performs additional tasks aligned with role expectations and qualifications to support team goals and operational flexibility.

Additional Job Description:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Experience

  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience administering enterprise database environments.

  • Demonstrated experience administering, tuning, and troubleshooting Oracle Database environments, including RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN, and Oracle Enterprise Manager.

  • Working knowledge of Linux administration, scripting, storage, networking, and troubleshooting as they relate to Oracle Database environments.

  • 3 years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, security, and high-availability technologies.

  • Experience with database backup and recovery strategies, security administration and auditing, and high‑availability and disaster‑recovery solutions. .

Preferred

  • Experience with Oracle Exadata environments.

  • Experience supporting databases in cloud or hybrid environments, particularly Microsoft Azure, including Azure SQL services and SQL Server on Azure infrastructure.

  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or other cloud database platforms.

  • Experience with automation and scripting tools such as Shell, PowerShell, Python, or comparable technologies.

  • Experience supporting utility, energy, or other critical infrastructure industries.

Competencies (Skills)

  • Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis capabilities.

  • Knowledge of database architecture, high availability, disaster recovery, and capacity management concepts.

  • Strong understanding of database security principles, data protection, and cybersecurity best practices.

  • Ability to automate routine database administration, monitoring, maintenance, and operational activities using scripting or automation technologies.

  • Strong technical documentation, change-management, and operational discipline.

  • Strong customer service orientation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Licenses/Certifications

Preferred but not requiered

  • Oracle Database Administration Professional certification (OCP or current equivalent).

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or comparable Microsoft data-platform certification.

  • ITIL Foundation or comparable IT service-management certification.

  • Relevant cybersecurity, Linux, cloud, or database-platform certification or formal technical training.
