About the role

The Data Studio Engineer will design, build, and maintain an integrated development environment for data exploration, analytics, and development. The role focuses on delivering intuitive and reliable experiences across notebooks, SQL editors, data exploration, and compute workflows, while integrating with large-scale data and compute platforms. The engineer will work closely with data engineers, analysts, and underlying streaming/batch infrastructure to improve developer productivity and enable efficient self-service data workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain Data Studio capabilities that provide an integrated development environment for data exploration, analytics, and development.

  • Build and enhance interactive tools such as Jupyter Notebook, SQL editors, query consoles, and data exploration experiences.

  • Integrate Data Studio with large-scale data and compute platforms such as Spark, Hadoop, Flink, and cloud-native services.

  • Develop backend services and APIs for workspace, session, compute, and resource lifecycle management.

  • Improve platform reliability, scalability, performance, security, and developer experience.

  • Partner with data engineers, analysts, and data scientists to understand workflows and deliver self-service data capabilities.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years software engineering skills in Java, Python, or similar languages.

  • 5+ years Experience with Jupyter, SQL development environments, data exploration tools, or similar developer platforms.

  • Experience with distributed data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, Flink, or similar systems.

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native infrastructure.

  • Strong understanding of APIs, distributed systems, and production platform engineering.

  • Demonstrated proficiency building production-grade software with AI coding agents, improving engineering velocity while maintaining high standards for quality, availability, and maintainability.
  • Ability to decompose problems and provide agents with the right context, specifications, constraints, and validation criteria.
  • Ability to capture and express business, architecture, codebase, and operational knowledge so AI coding agents can execute complex tasks accurately and autonomously.
  • Hands-on experience delivering complex, production-quality software using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, etc.
  • Experience building internal developers or data platforms is a plus.

  • Deep understanding of distributed scheduling system like Airflow is a plus
