THE ROLE: CUSTOMER BUSINESS ASSOCIATE - GROCERY

The Customer Business Associate, Grocery is an entry-level sales and customer-development role supporting growth across the Conventional Grocery channel. This role combines customer engagement, broker partnership, sales analysis, business planning, and execution. The Associate will support several Wellbeing Collective brands, including OLLY, SmartyPants, Welly, and Onnit, while developing the skills required to progress into future customer-management roles. The Associate will initially work with guidance from Grocery sales leadership and will earn increasing ownership as capabilities develop. Over time, the Associate will become the day-to-day point of contact for an assigned portfolio of regional grocery customers and broker partners. This role is well suited for someone who is analytical, organized, curious, commercially minded, and eager to build a career in Consumer Packaged Goods sales.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer and Broker Partnership

  • Support sales activity for an assigned portfolio of regional Grocery customers.
  • Build productive working relationships with retailer contacts, procurement partners, brokers, distributors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in customer meetings, broker business reviews, line reviews, and planning sessions.
  • Coordinate regular broker connections covering business performance, distribution opportunities, innovation, promotions, inventory, and customer needs.
  • Provide brokers with clear priorities, deadlines, materials, and follow-up expectations.
  • Escalate customer risks, execution gaps, and emerging opportunities to Grocery sales leadership.
  • Progress toward serving as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned customers and brokers.
  • The Grocery team’s established broker model calls for regular business reviews, proactive opportunity communication, data-based recommendations, and clear shared ownership between WBC Sales and broker partners.

Sales Analytics and Insights

  • Analyze customer POS, syndicated, shipment, distribution, assortment, and promotional data.
  • Identify distribution gaps, assortment opportunities, competitive threats, and potential sources of growth.
  • Translate information into clear insights and recommended actions.
  • Monitor customer and category performance across relevant time periods.
  • Maintain recurring performance reports, dashboards, account trackers, and opportunity files.
  • Develop customer-specific selling stories using retailer, shopper, category, and brand data.
  • Partner with Category Development and Sales Strategy to strengthen recommendations and customer presentations.

Customer Meetings and Line Reviews

  • Support the end-to-end preparation of customer meetings and category reviews.
  • Gather retailer requirements, timelines, category information, promotional expectations, samples, item documentation, and relevant customer insights.
  • Help build presentations for line reviews, business reviews, innovation meetings, and customer planning sessions.
  • Coordinate input from Sales, Category Development, Sales Strategy, Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, and broker partners.
  • Contribute fact-based assortment, distribution, innovation, and promotional recommendations.
  • Track decisions, action items, owners, and deadlines following customer meetings.
  • Develop toward independently leading reviews and recurring business meetings for assigned regional customers.
  • The Grocery line-review process requires early planning, fact-based recommendations, internal alignment, collaborative preparation with brokers, and disciplined post-meeting follow-through.

Planning, Forecasting, and Execution

  • Support annual customer planning, forecasting, promotional planning, and risks-and-opportunities management.
  • Maintain customer assumptions, store counts, velocities, item plans, and promotional activity in applicable planning systems.
  • Monitor forecast changes, orders, inventory constraints, and potential customer impacts.
  • Track innovation from initial sell-in through item setup, launch, distribution, and post-launch performance.
  • Coordinate item setup information, customer forms, product assets, samples, and launch documentation.
  • Support promotional execution, including timing, pricing, funding, retailer requirements, and post-event analysis.
  • Help ensure approved plans are executed accurately and on time.
  • Identify process gaps and recommend practical improvements to strengthen execution and reduce rework.
  • The prior Grocery Sales Associate onboarding plan moved the role from learning reporting, forecasting, and line-review processes to leading customer and broker communication and ultimately owning assigned accounts.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Sales, Category Development, Sales Strategy, Brand, Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, Customer Service, and broker partners.
  • Clearly communicate customer needs, business risks, deadlines, and requested decisions.
  • Organize work across multiple customers, brands, and concurrent priorities.
  • Contribute to team projects, sales tools, process documentation, and standard operating procedures.
  • Share customer and marketplace learnings that may benefit the broader Grocery organization.
  • Bring forward solutions rather than only identifying problems.

Culture and Development

  • Demonstrate the team values: Be Yourself, Be Disruptive, Be Passionate, and Be Supportive.
  • Seek feedback and apply learning quickly.
  • Take increasing ownership as knowledge and capability develop.
  • Build proficiency in Grocery sales fundamentals, including customer management, broker leadership, syndicated data, forecasting, promotions, financial discipline, and category selling.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, accountable, and inclusive team environment.
  • Approach the role with curiosity, adaptability, sound judgment, and a strong willingness to learn.

What Success Looks Like

  • Clear communication of opportunities, risks, and support needs.
  • Readiness to progress into expanded customer-business responsibility.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, remote environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functions and with external partners.
  • Results-oriented, adaptable, curious, and eager to learn.
  • The internal job-level framework describes Associate roles as generally having 0–3+ years of applicable experience, executing with direct supervision, collaborating on prioritization with a manager, and identifying and articulating problems.

Preferred

  • Experience in CPG, Grocery, retail sales, brokerage, category management, or customer analytics.
  • Familiarity with syndicated or retailer data, such as Circana/IRI, Nielsen, Numerator, retailer POS, or comparable tools.
