Job Summary

The Credit Analyst is responsible for evaluating and analyzing credit applications from individual and business clients to assess creditworthiness and manage risk exposure. The role will be based upcountry, specifically in Dodoma or any other assigned region, and will provide dedicated credit support for Special Schemes, including TPDF and other assigned schemes. The role will also continue to support HQ Credit business-as-usual activities, including application reviews, exception handling, portfolio follow-ups, stakeholder engagement, and operational support. This involves conducting comprehensive financial assessments, reviewing documentation, coordinating with regional and HQ stakeholders, and ensuring all activities are performed within the bank’s policies, regulatory guidelines, and agreed service standards.

Key Responsibilities


1. Evaluation and Analysis of Credit Applications (60%)

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of credit applications from individual and business clients.
  • Analyze financial statements, credit histories, and relevant documentation to determine creditworthiness and identify potential risks.
  • Ensure that all loan applications are thoroughly reviewed for any signs of fraud, including verifying client identification, signatures, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure timely assessments of credit applications within the agreed SLA time, maintaining operational efficiency.
  • Align all assessments and recommendations with the approved Retail Credit Policy and established product processes.
  • Make informed credit decisions (sanctioning) on loan applications from special schemes and other assignments from the Head of Retail Credit, subject to the delegated approval mandate assigned by the Head of Retail Credit.
  • Perform thorough credit reference checks and due diligence before processing applications to mitigate risk exposure.
  • Ensure employer confirmation is conducted on all applications prior to recommendations to validate applicant information.
  • Continuously monitor and analyze emerging credit trends to refine assessment methodologies and enhance risk evaluation.
  • Verify that no loan applications are processed for any branch or customer that has been suspended from lending due to breaches of any established triggers. This verification must be conducted prior to any loan processing.
  • Ensure timely engagement with all relevant stakeholders—Legal Team, Treasury Team, Security Management Unit (SMU), branch network, etc.—to align secured loan applications with agreed SLAs for credit processes.

2.       Preparation of Offer Letters and Client Communication (15%)

  • Draft and issue offer letters and provide timely feedback regarding approved facilities to clients through branch networks.
  • Ensure all secured loans complete their collateralization procedures before making recommendations for the Manager’s approval.
  • Facilitate effective communication post-approval to ensure a smooth onboarding process for clients.
  • Review and verify all required loan documentation, including land rent, valuation, insurance, title deeds, and mortgages, to ensure that all securities for loans are in order and up to date.

3.       Analysis of Customer Requests (5%)

  • Review and analyze requests for loan restructuring and other financial products, ensuring alignment with the bank’s risk appetite.
  • Conduct risk assessments on restructured loans to evaluate the impact on portfolio performance.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies for all client requests to uphold risk management standards.

4.       People Management (5%)

  • Collaborate with team members and branch staff to foster a positive and productive working environment.
  • Ensure a succession plan is in place for team members, promoting professional development.
  • Be prepared for job rotations and support other units within the Retail Credit team as needed.
  • Conduct training sessions and facilitate knowledge sharing among colleagues to enhance team capabilities.

5.       Compliance with Internal Policies and Regulatory Requirements (10%)

  • Ensure all credit evaluations and approvals strictly adhere to NBC Bank’s internal policies and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Stay informed about regulatory changes and proactively implement necessary adjustments to processes to maintain compliance and minimize audit findings.
  • Participate in internal audits and contribute to the development of action plans to address any identified compliance gaps.

6. Additional Responsibilities (5%)

  • Be flexible and adaptable in accepting and fulfilling additional tasks as assigned, demonstrating a willingness to learn and execute these responsibilities accurately and within specified timelines.

Education and Experience Required

  • A degree or advanced diploma in Finance, Banking, or Business Administration.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a related field.
