About the Role:
We're standing up a new in house video arm for paid social at Hims & Hers, bringing high volume ad production in house so we can move faster and work across every category and both brands, Hims and Hers. The Creative Lead is a foundational hire in that build, not a role slotting into an existing team. It's a hands on role based in Los Angeles, with in person attendance on set on a varied schedule that follows the shoots, not a typical office week.
As Creative Lead, you're the creative engine of the pod, partnering with a marketing Creative Strategist who sets the initial vision, direction, and scripts for each concept. From there, it's on you to bring that vision to life visually, directing the shoot, shaping the look, and pulling in your Producer and editorial counterparts to get each concept shot, cut, and shipped at volume.
This is a hands on, wear many hats role. You're not waiting around for a finished brief, you're a genuine creative partner from the earliest idea, and you're comfortable adapting fast as priorities, categories, and brands shift.
You'll work across both Hims and Hers and each category, taking direction from Strategists on either line of business and executing it with your own creative craft. Producing at the volume this pod needs means staying hands on across the whole path from concept to a launched, high performing ad, not just owning one piece of it.
You Will:
Partner with the marketing Creative Strategist from the earliest concept stage, translating their vision and scripts into a fully realized visual approach.
Own the visual execution of the pod's output end to end, bringing the Strategist's scripts and concepts to life on screen, and contributing to copy or hooks when it helps.
Be ready to direct shoots in person, giving real time notes to talent, crew, and production, and step behind the camera yourself (when needed) for lean, quick turnaround setups.
Adjust lines on set when needed to keep the words and the visuals in sync. The scripts themselves come from the Strategist, but your read on what's working in the room matters.
Shoot roughly 5 to 10 variants per concept to feed the post production iteration pipeline.
Partner closely with the Producer on shoot planning, covering locations, talent, props, wardrobe, and shot lists.
Collaborate with editorial and post production on every cut, giving clear, specific feedback to keep the work aligned with the original creative vision.
Maintain a high bar for craft across the board, composition, typography, color, motion, clarity, and voice, even at high volume and speed.
Translate what's winning in performance back into visual direction for future concepts and shoots, sharing insights with the Strategist to help shape future scripts.
You Have:
6 to 9 years of experience in art direction, video direction, or design, with copywriting or scripting as a secondary skill, and a portfolio spanning concept development and video first paid social or branded content, not just execution of others' briefs.
Demonstrated experience developing visual treatments, along with giving clear creative direction to crews, talent, and editors.
Hands on shooting experience, comfortable operating a camera yourself for lean shoots, not only directing a crew.
Comfortable contributing to copy, hooks, or scripts when it's useful, even though scripts are typically owned by the Creative Strategist.
Proven ability to concept and ship video first ads quickly in fast paced, high volume environments, balancing craft and business needs to deliver effective solutions with minimal guidance.
Deep understanding of platform best practices for Meta, TikTok, YouTube, Snap, and emerging short form formats.
Comfort collaborating across functions with editorial, production, and other internal creative teams, including distributed or offshore teams, to protect creative vision through iteration.
Comfort adapting your craft and creative point of view across multiple brands, categories, and audiences within a shared production system, rather than staying limited to a single brand.
Strong creative instincts across both visual storytelling and voice, with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and other relevant AI creative tools.
Comfort working with performance data as a guide for creative decisions, not just craft instinct, exercising sound judgment in balancing creative risk against practical constraints driven by the business.
A true go getter, comfortable wearing multiple hats and adapting fast as the needs of the business change, in a lean, fast moving in house team rather than an agency structure.
Portfolio Requirements
Please include a link to your portfolio or reel showing your role in concept development, storyboarding, visual direction, and scripting or copywriting where relevant, not just finished footage. Be clear about your specific contribution, whether concept, storyboard, director, DP, writer, or editor, on each project.
Our Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights):
Competitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles
Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days
Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental & vision, and parental leave
Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP)
