High Tech High Teacher Center  |  District Intern Program

The course instructor plans and teaches an in-person credentialing course for teacher interns. The role connects program standards to classroom practice through engaging instruction, assessment, feedback, and consistent candidate support.

Course Planning

• Meet with the Program Director before and after the course to review the plan and reflect on implementation.
• Prepare a syllabus that aligns outcomes, readings, activities, and assessments with assigned Teacher Performance Expectations (TPEs). Include two mentor observations and a rubric-based final project that assesses course outcomes and TPEs.
• Design practical, accessible learning grounded in candidates’ classroom experience. Address applicable literacy standards and include disability community voices in Education Specialist courses.
• Organize the syllabus, materials, assignments, and weekly agendas in Google Classroom. Send a welcome letter at least one week before the course begins.

Instruction and Candidate Support

• Teach all assigned in-person sessions using active, practice-based methods. Post an agenda before each class and provide required readings and materials.
• Email candidates weekly with agendas, reminders, and due dates. Gather feedback through exit cards and adjust instruction as needed.
• Review mentor observations and course work, provide actionable feedback, and support revision to a passing standard. Notify program leadership about attendance or progress concerns.

Assessment and Records

• Record attendance in the provided sheet, track assignment completion weekly in Google Classroom, and follow up with candidates about missing work.
• Have candidates self-assess their final project. Submit pass/fail grades within two weeks of the course ending and reserve time in the final class for the course evaluation.

Professional Commitments

• Attend required faculty meetings and course planning meetings; coordinate with program staff about candidate support and course needs.
• Leave classrooms clean and in their original setup, and complete any applicable time reporting. Assignment compensation includes planning, teaching, and required faculty meetings.

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree or higher 
• California clear teaching credential or equivalent out-of-state teaching license
• Appropriate teaching or administrative experience in a public P-12 environment within the last three years
• Experience teaching in a post-secondary setting and supporting adult learners
• Experience and passion for culturally responsive pedagogy and practice 
• Experience and passion for inclusive education
