Job Description

Reviews risk submissions from clients, agents, and referrals, and underwrites insurance requests within guidelines of the underwriting manual and authority limits. Applies underwriting and risk-selection techniques to determine acceptability of new and renewal insurance risks.

Minimum Requirements:

• NQF Level 7 Tertiary qualification
• 3-5 years’ underwriting experience.
• Good communication skills (written and spoken English).
• Excellent analytical & decision-making skills.
• Strong relationship management skills
• Excellent Microsoft skills (Excel & PowerPoint)
• Good interpersonal skills (internal & external).
• Admin orientated and must give attention to detail.
• Must be energetic, embrace the OMSIC Values and must be prepared to go beyond the confines of “normal” underwriting.
• Relevant tertiary (short-term insurance) qualification is an additional advantage.

Job Description:

• Ensuring that all underwriting decisions align with risks appetite and reinsurance governance framework
• Ensuring documentation is processed accurately and reinsurance is placed when needed.
• Submit monthly reporting on corporate risks
• Attending to administration and written communication.
• Ensuring that documentation is issued, checked, and authorized timeously.
• Maintaining high-quality service, policy contracts and general communication through compliance with Old Mutual policies, procedures and standards;
• Resolving and communicating feedback on escalated customer queries and complaints.
• Ensuring renewal, new business and endorsement reviews are completed timeously.
• Supporting BDC’s in acquiring and retaining profitable business.
