We’re looking for a Senior Director, Assistant General Counsel, Product & Regulatory to lead legal strategy across Dave’s consumer financial products and regulatory landscape. You’ll be a senior advisor to Product, Risk, Compliance, and executive leadership while developing a strong team that helps Dave build responsibly and move with confidence.

The Opportunity

This role sits at the intersection of product innovation, consumer financial regulation, and business strategy. You’ll shape how Dave approaches legal risk across banking, lending, payments, subscriptions, and emerging products while helping teams translate complex requirements into practical decisions.

You’ll lead a team of senior legal professionals, set the strategy for product and regulatory counseling, and serve as a trusted advisor on Dave’s most complex product, bank partner, licensing, and regulatory matters.

What You’ll Build and Own

• Lead legal strategy for Dave’s banking, lending, payments, neobanking, and subscription products, partnering with Product, Design, Marketing, Engineering, Security, Risk, and Compliance from early concept through launch and ongoing operations.

• Advise on product structure, onboarding, disclosures, pricing, servicing, and terms, helping teams balance member experience, business objectives, and legal and regulatory requirements.

• Build and lead a proactive regulatory monitoring and change-management program covering federal and state legislative, regulatory, licensing, and enforcement developments.

• Own senior legal relationships with sponsor banks, program partners, payment processors, and outside counsel, including BaaS arrangements, audits, program changes, and card-network requirements.

• Oversee Dave’s state licensing strategy, including NMLS-related requirements, and provide legal leadership during regulatory exams, bank partner reviews, and audits.

• Manage, coach, and develop senior legal professionals, setting clear expectations for quality, judgment, ownership, and professional growth while planning for future capability and succession needs.

What We’re Looking For

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.

• 12+ years of legal and regulatory experience in consumer financial services and/or fintech, including significant experience advising on product and regulatory matters.

• Deep experience with banking, lending, payments, digital financial products, and BaaS partnership structures.

• Strong knowledge of consumer financial services laws and regulations, including TILA, TISA, EFTA, FCRA, GLBA, UDAAP, ROSCA, and related state consumer protection and licensing requirements.

• Demonstrated experience managing state licensing requirements and building or maintaining state regulatory requirements inventories.

• Experience supporting state and federal regulatory exams, audits, and regulatory change initiatives.

• Proven people leadership experience, including developing senior attorneys or comparable legal professionals and building strong, accountable teams.

• Executive-level communication skills and the ability to make complex legal and regulatory issues clear to senior leaders and, when needed, the Board.

Bonus Points

• Experience in fintech, digital banking, payments, or financial services technology.

• Experience across both law firm and senior in-house roles.

• Experience building or scaling an in-house legal function.

• Recognized subject-matter expertise in consumer fintech product or regulatory matters.
