Position Summary

The Professional Development Coordinator will provide support to the Finance and Sponsor Finance groups, and to other finance-related practice groups as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Providing staffing assistance to the Professional Development Managers and Staffing Partners. This may include updating practice group staffing logs; making staffing suggestions, as needed; and handling staffing requests when the Professional Development Managers are out.

  • Assisting with the administration of the vacation policy for the practice groups, which may include maintaining vacation calendars, communicating with lawyers about their upcoming vacations and coverage needs, and coordinating with the PD Managers and Staffing Partners to find coverage.

  • Supporting mentoring and coaching programs for associates and counsel.

  • Providing support and assistance with the integration of new associates and lateral hires, which includes drafting welcome memos, updating listservs and rosters, assistance with planning informal training sessions, and scheduling check-ins and social events, among other projects.

  • Organizing and maintaining materials for practice group review meetings and providing additional support in connection with the informal feedback, review, and talent management processes.

  • Reviewing and reporting on lawyer missing time entries and attendance, where applicable.

  • Assisting with organizing frequent social events for the practice groups and their sub-groups.

  • Liaising regularly with associates and counsel to identify and implement initiatives for improving workplace morale, professional training, and other programming.

  • Assisting with other projects for the Professional Development department as requested.

Qualifications/Position Requirements

  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks quickly and efficiently.

  • Detail-oriented, organized and driven, with the desire to take ownership of projects and responsibilities, but to also work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Able to propose creative solutions to challenging problems.

  • Ability to maintain utmost discretion of confidential information.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work confidently and collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to establish rapport and build relationships and credibility with internal stakeholders.

  • Ability to maintain professional composure in high- pressure situations and a fast-paced, multi-authority environment.

  • Highly motivated, responsive and conscientious, with a commitment to delivering excellent client service.

  • Availability during standard office hours and the ability to respond to email promptly outside of standard office hours and on weekends is essential.

  • Familiarity with Excel and comfortable creating and presenting PowerPoint presentations expected.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of relevant experience required.

Compensation

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $70,000 - $80,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, anticipated assignment, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Davis Polk offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
