Why this role matters?

As a Wind Resource & Energy Yield Specialist, you will contribute to ERM's global renewable energy consulting practice by delivering high-quality wind resource assessments, energy yield assessments, and technical advisory services. Working within the Technical Due Diligence team, you will support wind energy projects throughout the project lifecycle, including site screening, development, financing, acquisition, construction, and operations. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across North America and EMEA to help clients evaluate project performance, understand technical risks, and make informed investment decisions.

What your impact is?

·       Deliver bankable wind resource and energy yield assessments for utility-scale wind projects.

·       Support technical due diligence assignments for project financing, mergers and acquisitions, and portfolio evaluations.

·       Develop and optimize wind turbine layouts to maximize energy production while considering environmental, engineering, and permitting constraints.

·       Analyze meteorological data and operational performance data to determine energy yield and identify risks and opportunities with project energy yield performance.

·       Provide inputs as needed for design, environmental studies, and project economics.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of ERM's energy yield methodologies, tools, and best practices.

What you’ll bring:

  • A solid academic background in atmospheric sciences or related engineering field (Meteorology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering).
  • Minimum 5 years of technical consulting, engineering, or operational experience during your career within the energy / infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong technical skills and analytical skills.
  • Experience performing wind data quality control, validation, and meteorological data analysis.
  • Familiarity with Measure-Correlate-Predict (MCP) methodologies and long-term resource correction techniques.
  • Understanding of wind farm loss calculations including wake losses, electrical losses, turbine performance, environmental losses, and availability assumptions.
  • Familiarity with uncertainty assessments and P50/P75/P90 energy production estimates.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as IEC 61400-15 and wind resource assessment best practices.
  • Experience working with met mast, lidar, and reanalysis datasets.

Preferred:


  • Experience preparing lender's technical advisor or independent engineer style energy yield assessments.
  • Experience supporting project financing, acquisitions, or technical due diligence activities.
  • Knowledge of both onshore and offshore wind resource assessments.
  • Familiarity with CFD-based flow modelling and mesoscale-to-microscale wind resource modelling approaches.
  • Experience analysing operational wind farm performance and SCADA datasets.
  • Working knowledge of solar energy yield assessment methodologies.
  • Python programming and workflow automation experience.

Key responsibilities:


Independently manage technical workstreams within larger project assignments.

  • Prepare technical reports, client presentations, and due diligence deliverables.
  • Support proposal development through scope preparation, effort estimation, and technical inputs.
  • Participate in client meetings and respond to technical questions.
  • Review and QA/QC technical analyses and deliverables.
  • Evaluate technical risks and opportunities associated with wind projects, including resource uncertainty, technology selection, operational performance, and project bankability.
  • Collaborate with global teams and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  • Contribute to methodology development, automation initiatives, and process improvements.
  • Support the training and development of junior analysts where appropriate.
