ERM is seeking a Consultant, Remediation and Demolition Site Lead to join our Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) team in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced field professional who thrives in dynamic project environments and is passionate about safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence. In this role, you will serve as a critical link between project planning and field execution, supporting remediation, construction, decommissioning, decontamination, and demolition (DDD) projects while helping clients navigate complex environmental challenges.


Working alongside ERM's multidisciplinary team of project managers, construction managers, demolition managers, and health and safety professionals, you will play an essential role in delivering safe, compliant, and successful project outcomes.

As a Consultant, Remediation and Demolition Site Lead, you will be the on-site leader responsible for overseeing field activities, supporting contractor performance, maintaining rigorous health and safety standards, and ensuring projects are executed efficiently and effectively.


Your work will directly contribute to protecting communities, supporting sustainable redevelopment efforts, and helping clients safely manage environmental liabilities. What Your Impact Is:

  • Lead the safe implementation of remediation, construction, decommissioning, decontamination, and demolition projects in the field.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for project teams, contractors, and clients during all phases of project execution.
  • Promote and maintain ERM's strong health and safety culture by serving as a Field Safety Officer and ensuring compliance with project-specific safety requirements.
  • Support project delivery through planning, contractor oversight, schedule management, reporting, and quality assurance activities.
  • Help identify and address project challenges proactively while maintaining alignment with project objectives, budgets, and timelines.
  • Support business growth through client engagement, proposal development, interviews, and project contracting activities.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering field, preferably chemical, civil, or structural engineering, with at least 3 years of project experience, or equivalent experience. Alternatively, a degree in geology, environmental science, occupational health, safety, or industrial hygiene will be considered, or equivalent experience. Candidates with the equivalency of 7+ years of related experience in lieu of education will also be considered.
  • Experience in heavy construction, demolition, or remediation-specific project execution and health & safety leadership.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including implementing strict Health and Safety protocols.
  • Strong initiative, problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in situations involving uncertainty or evolving project requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, technical writing, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel throughout and outside the United States. Applicants should anticipate spending approximately 75% of their time in the field on three-week rotations with typically one-week breaks.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship. 

Preferred

  • Engineering degree in chemical, civil, or structural engineering.
  • Experience supporting complex environmental remediation and demolition projects.
  • Experience with contractor management, field oversight, and project scheduling.
  • Experience serving in a field-based health and safety leadership role.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning & Execution

  • Plan and support Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) projects, including: Developing scopes of work. Reviewing contractor work plans. Evaluating scope alternatives. Supporting project cost estimates. Attending pre-construction interviews. Supervising specific project tasks. Participating in client and progress meetings. Documenting project progress and updating schedules. Performing field safety walks. Preparing project summaries and final reports.

Contractor Oversight & Compliance

  • Review contractor submittals including, but not limited to: Requests for Information (RFIs). Contract clarifications. Contract-required submittals. Change order requests. Other documents related to compliance with project specifications.
  • Evaluate subcontractor performance and project schedules.
  • Assist with negotiating and resolving change order requests.

Site Investigation & Technical Support

  • Support site investigations to identify existing subsurface and building conditions.
  • Assist with sampling efforts to determine the presence of hazardous materials requiring special handling during remediation and demolition activities.

Health & Safety Leadership

  • Serve as the Field Safety Officer for assigned projects.
  • Prepare project-specific Health & Safety Plans.
  • Monitor compliance with safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings.
  • Interface with contractors, ERM project teams, and client representatives.
  • Maintain site safety documentation and records.
  • Conduct behavior-based safety observations.
  • Coordinate internal Event Communication System activities.
  • Investigate and correct incidents and near misses.
  • Support continuous improvement of field safety performance.

Project Coordination & Client Support

  • Coordinate communication between field personnel and Project Managers.
  • Support assessments of project conformance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Ensure project clarifications and contract interpretations are effectively implemented.
  • Assist Project Managers in identifying and tracking upcoming project requirements.
  • Meet with clients to discuss future work opportunities.
  • Support business development initiatives, including: Proposal preparation. Client interviews. Project contracting activities.

Training & Professional Compliance

Complete and maintain required training, including:

  • ERM Field Safety Officer Training Modules
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER
  • 8-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Supervisor
  • CPR/First Aid
  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Confined Space and Excavation Awareness
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Hazard Recognition and Job Hazard Analysis
  • Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis
