Job Description:
What’s the role
The Complex Deal Management (CDM) Analyst supports the design, operation and continuous improvement of data flows and business processes across the Power and Gas portfolios. The role combines detailed business-process understanding with data analysis, digital enablement and hands-on delivery of automation solutions. Working across multiple delivery teams, the analyst helps ensure that complex deal data is complete, controlled, traceable and fit for operational, settlement and reporting purposes.
The purpose of the role is to improve the quality, efficiency, control and scalability of Complex Deal Management through better use of data, standardized processes and fit-for-purpose automation. The analyst will investigate data and process issues, translate business requirements into practical solutions, support delivery and testing, and help embed new ways of working across both Power and Gas.
A key expectation is active participation in the development and implementation of new strategic solutions. This includes contributing business knowledge, defining requirements, supporting data mapping and validation, participating in testing, and helping ensure that the resulting solution is operationally robust and usable by the business.
What you’ll be doing
Power and Gas data flows
Understand, document and improve end-to-end data flows across Power and Gas, from source systems and external interfaces through to ETRM, calculation, settlement, invoicing and downstream reporting. Identify gaps, breaks, duplication and control weaknesses.
Data analysis and quality
Extract, reconcile and analyse complex operational and transactional data. Identify trends, anomalies and root causes, and work with process owners and technical teams to resolve issues and strengthen data quality.
Automation delivery
Contribute to the design, build, testing, deployment and maintenance of automation and digital solutions. Translate business needs into clear requirements and acceptance criteria, and ensure solutions are controlled, supportable and aligned with operational priorities.
Business process improvement
Map current processes, challenge manual or fragmented ways of working, and identify opportunities to standardise, simplify and automate activities across Complex Deal Management.
Controls and assurance
Embed appropriate controls, reconciliations, audit trails and exception handling in data and automation solutions. Support transparent evidence, issue escalation and sustainable remediation.
Stakeholder collaboration
Work closely with Complex Deal Management colleagues and IT and external service providers. Communicate requirements, issues, options and outcomes clearly.
Operational support and continuous improvement
Support implemented tools and data processes, investigate incidents, maintain documentation and contribute to a prioritised improvement backlog. Share knowledge and help build data and automation capability within the team.
What you bring
The successful candidate combines strong analytical capability with practical delivery skills and a sound understanding of business operations. They are curious about how data moves through systems, comfortable working across functional boundaries, and disciplined in turning ideas into controlled and sustainable improvements.
- Experience working with complex data, business processes or operational systems in energy trading, trading operations, settlements, finance, risk operations or a comparable environment.
- Ability to understand and analyse end-to-end Power and Gas data flows and explain how upstream data, calculations and process decisions affect ETRM, settlement, invoicing and reporting outcomes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to reconcile data across systems, identify root causes and convert findings into practical actions.
- Experience gathering and documenting business requirements, process flows, data mappings, test cases, controls and operating procedures.
- Ability to contribute effectively to digital or automation delivery, including solution design, user acceptance testing, implementation and post-deployment support.
- Strong controls mindset, with attention to data quality, auditability, traceability, access, exception management and sustainable ownership.
- Clear and professional communication skills, with the confidence to work with both business and technical stakeholders and to challenge constructively where needed.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and take ownership of issues through to resolution while contributing positively within a collaborative team.
Desirable experience and capabilities
- Knowledge of European Power and/or Gas markets and associated operational, metering, allocation, nomination, balancing, reconciliation and settlement processes.
- Experience with an ETRM platform and an understanding of the end-to-end Life of a Deal.
- Experience with data visualisation, reporting, workflow tools, SQL or comparable data-querying techniques.
- Coding or scripting experience is helpful, for example Python, but the role is not primarily a software-development position.
- Experience participating in agile or product-based delivery, including backlog refinement, requirements definition, testing and release readiness.
- Proficient in leveraging AI-enabled tools such as Copilot and Genie through effective prompt engineering and AI-assisted problem solving to improve productivity, operational efficiency, and business outcomes.
Successful profile
A strong candidate will be data-led, technically curious, process-minded and commercially aware. They will connect Power and Gas business knowledge with practical data and automation delivery, contribute constructively to Ada and Trident, and produce improvements that are accurate, controlled, scalable and usable in day-to-day operations.
