Job Summary:

Caterpillar is seeking a Commissioning Manager to lead a team of commissioning engineers supporting the installation, startup, testing, and performance validation of large natural gas power generation systems across the United States. In this highly visible leadership role, you will oversee field commissioning operations for utility, industrial, and Oil & Gas customers while driving safety, quality, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.

Additional Information:

  • This role requires working 5 days a week in office from our Fort Worth or Houston, Texas office.

  • Travel up to 25% within the United States and Canada, with occasional travel to Germany for onboarding and specialized technical training.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required customer, site, or U.S. Government security clearances.

  • Monthly phone allowance included.

  • Relocation assistance is available for this position.

  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of commissioning engineers supporting large-scale natural gas power generation projects across the United States.

  • Plan and coordinate commissioning resources, schedules, and field activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within contractual requirements.

  • Partner with project managers, customers, EPC contractors, and equipment suppliers to drive successful installation, startup, and commissioning execution.

  • Oversee installation audits, system startup, testing, troubleshooting, and performance validation of engine-generator packages and supporting systems.

  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety, environmental, quality, and company standards while fostering a strong safety culture.

  • Review and approve commissioning documentation, technical reports, punch lists, and project deliverables to ensure accuracy and quality.

  • Monitor project progress, labor utilization, and commercial performance while supporting reporting, invoicing, and change management activities.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to resolve complex commissioning and operational challenges while maintaining exceptional customer relationships.

What You Have:

  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.

Additional Requirements:

  • Engineering degree, technical diploma, marine engineering certification, or equivalent technical experience.

  • Progressive leadership experience within commissioning, field service, or startup operations in power generation, oil and gas, marine propulsion, or a similar industrial environment.

  • Experience leading technical teams, managing complex field operations, developing employees, and maintaining accountability for safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and operational performance.

  • Progressive hands-on experience in commissioning or service engineering involving medium-speed or high-speed natural gas or diesel reciprocating engines.

 

 

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
