The Role

COMMERCIAL SOLAR DESIGN ENGINEER

Fisher & Paykel is an iconic New Zealand brand, a global company with a strong local heritage. Our origins inspire our culture of curiosity and passion to develop solutions designed around people - these are some of the core elements that make us unique.

We are driven by our values of being trusted, sustainably minded, innovative, generous, and curious. As a team we take a collaborative approach and have a working environment where all ideas are heard, evaluated, and tested against our leading goal - to be the world's most human-centred appliance brand

Design the future of sustainable energy.

At Fisher & Paykel Home Solutions, we're helping shape the future of energy across New Zealand and Australia. As demand for commercial solar and whole-of-home energy solutions continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Commercial Solar Design Engineer to join our Design Services team.

This is a true engineering design role. You'll be responsible for creating innovative, technically robust solar and energy solutions that enable our customers to transition to a more sustainable future. Working alongside Sales, Installation, Product and Service teams, you'll turn complex customer requirements into practical, high-performing energy systems that deliver exceptional outcomes.

With a strong pipeline of commercial and industrial projects already underway, you'll have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of technically challenging designs while helping shape the next generation of integrated energy solutions.

Where you’ll make your mark

As one of our technical design specialists, you'll develop detailed commercial solar and energy system designs that balance engineering excellence, regulatory compliance and commercial viability. From interpreting specifications and developing detailed drawings through to energy modelling and system optimisation, you'll own the design process and provide the technical expertise our teams rely on.

You'll collaborate closely across the business, providing design guidance that supports successful project delivery while continually improving our design standards, tools and technical capability.

Your work will include commercial and industrial solar PV systems, sustainable building integrations, energy modelling, HVAC and hot-water system considerations, load calculations, and developing customer-focused solutions that align with our Home Solutions strategy.

Who are you?

You'll bring a strong technical foundation and genuine passion for sustainable energy design. You enjoy solving complex engineering problems, thinking beyond today's solution, and designing systems that perform in the real world.

You’ll bring

  • Three or more years' experience designing commercial solar systems, with experience in HVAC or hot water systems highly regarded.

  • Strong knowledge of AS/NZS standards including 4777, 5033, 5139 and 4509, together with a sound understanding of building codes and construction practices.

  • Experience using industry design and modelling software such as SolarPlus, PVSyst, TRNSYS or Revit.

  • Well-developed analytical skills, attention to detail and confidence working across multiple design projects.

Just as importantly, you'll be naturally collaborative, customer-focused and curious. You're someone who enjoys challenging conventional thinking, continuously improving the way work is done, and sharing your expertise with others. You'll take pride in delivering quality engineering outcomes while maintaining an unwavering commitment to health and safety.

What we offer

This is an opportunity to apply your engineering expertise where it truly matters.

You'll join a passionate, collaborative team working on meaningful projects that contribute directly to decarbonisation across New Zealand and Australia. We offer flexibility through our hybrid working model, a modern new Penrose, Auckland headquarters, most importantly, you'll help design solutions that make sustainable energy more accessible for businesses and communities—creating lasting impact for our customers and for the future.

Offering a competitive salary, you'll have access to real development pathways and meaningful progression opportunities. As part of our team, you'll also enjoy generous discounts on Fisher & Paykel and Haier products, life and disability insurance, subsidised medical cover, access to our industry-leading Whānau/Family leave policy, a subsidised on-site café, and complimentary parking when you're in the office.

All of this, supported by exceptional leadership and the credibility of a world-class heritage brand — one that continues to be recognised as one of New Zealand's most Trusted Brands, year after year.
