Clinical Training Programs commencing January 2027

The School of Veterinary Medicine, Murdoch University has vacancies in the following programs commencing in January 2027.

12-month discipline-specific traineeships

  • Large Animal - Equine

  • Small Animal Surgery

  • Small Animal Rotating (Medicine, Oncology & Cardiology)

  • Emergency & Critical Care

  • Anaesthesia

The 12-month postgraduate trainee program is a year-long, advanced clinical training program in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University in Western Australia. The training program offers clinical experience in specific disciplines and an opportunity to gain formal scholarly training through concurrent enrolment in a graduate program.

These positions would suit a recent graduate veterinarian interested in further university training and upskilling in areas relevant to general practice, or as a stepping stone to further clinical training, such as a residency. Exceptional new graduates will be considered.

An annual stipend of $40k is offered with concurrent enrolment in the graduate program which results in award of a Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Studies after completion of 2 semesters. After-hours payments for relevant disciplines average between $10-20k per 12 months. Course fees are paid by the School (value approximately $20k).

The three-year, full-time residency programs allow a successful candidate to target credential requirements for speciality certification. The residencies are supervised by board-certified academic staff. Concurrent part-time enrolment in a research master’s degree is required.

Residents are employed as 0.8 FTE Associate Lecturer, with all of the benefits of a salaried staff member, including 17% employer superannuation contributions. Our staff enjoy a vibrant, natural campus with world-class facilities, along with a variety of benefits, including:

Applicants must be able to start the program in late July for Semester 2, 2026 enrolment. Application for clinical training positions is restricted to veterinarians with a degree that can be registered in Western Australia. Australian and New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency status is required.
