As a Clinical Pharmacist, a caregiver in this role will provide dedicated Emergency Department pharmacy services at Indian River Hospital in a fast-paced, patient-centered clinical environment. Working directly within the Emergency Department, the caregiver will collaborate with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers and other caregivers to provide timely, evidence-based medication management. Responsibilities include reviewing and verifying medication orders, providing real-time medication recommendations during high-acuity events, participating in code blue and emergency response situations, serving as a clinical pharmacy resource and responding to urgent medication-related questions and consults. The caregiver will also support medication safety initiatives and collaborate with inpatient pharmacy teams to promote continuity of care. This role provides opportunities to practice decentralized emergency medicine pharmacy while also supporting central pharmacy operations and inpatient workflows as needed.

A caregiver in this position will work a 7-on, 7-off schedule, with the work week running Wednesday night through Wednesday morning. During the scheduled week, caregivers will work four shifts from 9:30 AM to 8:00 PM and three shifts from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Weekend and holiday coverage are built into the 7-on, 7-off rotation.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provides safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services.
• Verifies medication orders and/or dispenses medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.
• Documents services in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
• Utilizes available technology proficiently and to full extent, in their area of practice.
• Ensures all pharmacy operations are in compliance with national accreditation standards.
• Maintains professional interactions with patients to facilitate successful patient experiences.
• Maintains professional working relationships with all caregivers.
• Promotes a positive work environment by providing constructive ideas and feedback to improve services and the department.
• Educates and trains students, residents, other caregivers, and/or patients.
• Provides cost-effective care.
• Accountable for drug use policy adherence.
• Utilizes time and resources effectively.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• PharmD or Bachelors of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.
• Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current State within 90 days of hire.
• For individuals required to administer immunizations,Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire are required. 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience preferred.
• Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired in a Specialized Pharmacy practice area (i.e. Critical Care, Oncology).
• Board Certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing and walking for prolonged times, approximately 75% of shift and continuously for extended periods of time.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer and dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Position often includes reaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps and sitting.
• Must have normal or corrected vision.
• Must have ability to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
