OVERVIEW OF POSITION: Under direct supervision, provide behavior intervention services with the addition of supervision of up to 1 Direct Intervention case and 1 Parent Consultation case and monitor the development of individuals served in the home, community, and/or other natural settings. Teaches both diagnosed individuals, as well as caregivers, strategies to increase skills and decrease behaviors of concern through positive interventions. Works closely with the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Behavior Interventionists to provide positive supports, conduct assessments, and assist with development of programs, including treatment and data analysis. Provides support and ongoing training for Behavior Interventionists.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

  • Under supervision by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), provides program management and executes changes in program. Provides specialized behavior intervention services and program supervision to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or other related disabilities. Works closely with the BCBA and Behavior Interventionists to provide intervention, and, under the direct supervision of a BCBA, conduct assessment activities, assists with activities for writing progress reports, and develop programs for assigned cases.
  • Assists in creating and delivering specific intervention activities and provides caregiver education according to treatment plan or other individualized assessments. Monitors the skill acquisition of children and adults diagnosed on the autism spectrum in natural settings.
  • Under the direct guidance and supervision of a BCBA, completes necessary documentation including re-assessments, treatment notes, progress reports and exit summaries, and keeps updated with other programs, and participant-related documents and reports.
  • Provides hands on Behavior Skills Training to staff during sessions. Attends staff meetings, in-services, treatment planning, trainings, and other meetings, as requested.
  • Remains current regarding new research, current trends and developments in autism, ABA, special education, and related fields.
  • Maintains frequent, professional, and courteous communications with participants and families. Communicates caregiver concerns and needs immediately to the case supervisor.
  • Provides support for new and existing Behavior Interventionists by ensuring knowledge and completion of administrative tasks including required annual and monthly trainings (online and in person), completion of sessions in organization’s electronic health records system, position scorecards, virtual binders, etc.
  • Provides clinical support to new and existing Behavior Interventionists through the completion of competency checks and additional trainings as necessary.
  • Completes necessary documentation including competency checks, session notes, etc.
  • Provides specialized behavior intervention services to children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)and/or other developmental disabilities in the home, community and/or other natural settings. Prepares the learning environment to maximize effectiveness of intervention. Provides caregiver education and coordinates specialized training and instructional materials for caregivers.
  • Attends staff meetings, in-service trainings, and other meetings as required.
  • Completes necessary documentation, including skill probing, preference assessments, treatment notes, and data charting related to progress reports and exit summaries. Keeps updated records of other site, program, and participant-related documents and reports.
  • Maintains the billable requirement for the position.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • Completion of a Master’s degree program in Applied Behavior Analysis or closely related field that meets the educational requirements for the BCBA for BCBA examination is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a current CPR certification.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 1 year of ABA experience with children with autism spectrum disorders and/or other related developmental disabilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices found to benefit children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
  • Familiar with the field of early intervention.
  • Familiar with the approaches to intervention based on the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
  • Competent in employing and directing behavior analytic methodologies including Natural Environment Teaching (NET), Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), and Behavior Skills Training (BST).
  • Strong clinical, administrative, and leadership skills.
  • Able to consistently demonstrate good judgement and decision making skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and related software applications.
  • Ability to maintain positive customer interaction and professionalism, communicate effectively through oral and written skills, and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups; demonstrated ability to interact well with children and their families, and to maintain a positive effect.
  • Ability to interpret and implement policies, procedures, and regulations; ability to exercise discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality in handling sensitive situations and documentation.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer physical examination and a TB test.
  • Ability to provide proof of required vaccinations or positive titer showing immunity. A signed declination may be acceptable for certain vaccinations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation per Easterseals Southern California and/or program requirements.
  • Ability to travel locally; maintain driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards; maintain auto insurance and vehicle registration.
  • Knowledgeable in licensed area of practice, interdisciplinary early intervention theories, and rehabilitation principles and practices.

Carrying/Lifting: Occasional / Up to 30 Lbs.
Standing: Occasional / Up to 3 hours per day.
Sitting: Constant / Up to 8 hours per day.
Walking: Occasional / Up to 3 hours per day.
Repetitive Motion/Activity: Frequent speaking, listening to clients, staff, and other professionals in meetings and on the telephone. Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and twisting in order to observe, assess and interact with participants. Keyboard activity, telephone use, and writing.
Visual Acuity: Ability to view computer monitor and read newsprint.
Travel: This position requires up to 50% local travel.
Environmental Exposure: None.
