ROLE OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE
The Cleaning Supervisor is a key operational leadership role responsible for supervising, auditing and supporting a number of Cleaning Team Leaders and their operative teams across the Eurostar estate. The Supervisor acts as the bridge between the frontline Team Leaders and the Duty Manager, ensuring that cleaning standards, compliance requirements and shift performance targets are consistently met. The Supervisor reports directly to the Duty Manager on operational matters and feeds compliance information and audit outcomes back to the Compliance Manager. This role plays a critical part in maintaining ABM's quality standards, health and safety culture and client relationship.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Supervision & Leadership of Team Leaders
- Supervise, support and direct all Cleaning Team Leaders on site during every shift, providing clear operational guidance and ensuring tasks are progressed effectively.
- Conduct regular site walk-arounds throughout the shift to assess Team Leader performance, team productivity and cleaning quality across all areas.
- Brief Team Leaders on operational priorities, any Eurostar or Duty Manager instructions, schedule changes and safety considerations.
- Provide coaching and on-the-spot feedback to Team Leaders to develop their skills and improve team performance on a continuous basis.
- Escalate any Team Leader conduct, performance or capability concerns to the Duty Manager promptly and in accordance with ABM HR policy.
- Support Team Leaders in managing operative-level issues, including attendance, performance and welfare, providing guidance and escalating where appropriate.
Quality Auditing & Standards
- Carry out structured quality audits of cleaning outputs across Eurostar trains, depot areas, offices, welfare facilities and public spaces during every shift.
- Record audit findings using the ABM compliance management system and share results with the Compliance Manager and Duty Manager.
- Issue immediate corrective instructions to Team Leaders when quality deficiencies are identified; verify that remedial action is taken before the end of shift.
- Monitor and verify that all areas are cleaned to the Eurostar specification, referencing the task schedule and quality standards set out in the contract.
- Identify recurring quality or compliance trends and report these to the Duty Manager and Compliance Manager with recommended corrective actions.
Compliance & Health and Safety
- Ensure full on-site compliance with ABM and Eurostar Health & Safety policies, risk assessments, method statements and COSHH procedures at all times.
- Conduct shift safety inspections and ensure all Team Leaders have completed their own pre-shift safety checks before operatives commence work.
- Verify that all staff on site hold the correct, in-date security vetting clearance (EIL pass) before any shift commences; report any discrepancies to the Duty Manager immediately.
- Ensure all COSHH requirements are met — chemicals are correctly stored, labelled and diluted, and COSHH data sheets are accessible on site.
- Investigate and record all near-misses, accidents and incidents on site; complete required documentation and report to the Duty Manager and Health & Safety Manager within the shift.
- Promote a positive safety culture across all Team Leaders and Cleaning Operatives — leading by example and reinforcing safe behaviours at every interaction.
Duty Manager Support & Operational Liaison
- Act as the primary on-site link between Team Leaders and the Duty Manager, providing regular updates on shift performance, quality status and any issues requiring management attention.
- Support the Duty Manager in managing real-time operational challenges, including cover for absent operatives, reactive cleaning requirements and urgent Eurostar requests.
- Attend and contribute to shift handover briefings, Daily Ops Calls and any site-level meetings as directed by the Duty Manager.
- Assist the Duty Manager with the completion and accuracy of shift reports, incident logs and any other operational documentation.
- Deputise for the Duty Manager in their absence for day-to-day on-site matters, escalating anything beyond the Supervisor's authority to the Operations Delivery Manager.
- Support the Compliance Manager's audit programme by facilitating site access, providing records and coordinating Team Leader involvement as required.
Training, Development & Engagement
- Identify training and development needs for Team Leaders and report these to the Duty Manager and Operations Delivery Manager for action.
- Deliver or coordinate on-site Moment for Safety and briefings as directed by the Health & Safety Manager or Duty Manager.
- Support the induction and onboarding of new Team Leaders, guiding them through site-specific procedures and ABM standards during their first weeks.
- Encourage and support Team Leaders in completing required training and personal development activities in line with ABM policy.
