About this City Cast DC, Events Manager role at City Cast

City Cast · Onsite · Washington, District of Columbia, United States

City Cast is hiring an Events Manager to build and run City Cast DC’s live events program. We’re DC’s fastest-growing local news operation, with a daily podcast, web articles, email newsletters, and social media content. Now we want to bring our audience together in person. We need a creative, well-organized, well-connected person who knows what’s happening in DC, knows what it takes to plan and execute a great event, and can help turn those events into audience growth and member loyalty.

You’ll report to the City Cast DC General Manager and work closely with our editorial team, our national marketing and membership teams, and City Cast’s product and operations teams. This is a high-impact, high-autonomy role. You’ll shape how DC experiences City Cast in person, from free public events that introduce new people to our brand to subscriber-only gatherings that make membership worth it.

Application Due: November 10, 2026

Key Responsibilities

Own City Cast DC’s events program

  • Develop the local events strategy, calendar, and budget with the GM and the national marketing team
  • Plan and run a regular cadence of events across DC, including public events that grow our audience and subscriber events that reward our most loyal supporters
  • Handle events from concept to wrap-up: venues, vendors, ticketing and registration, staffing, run-of-show, and day-of execution
  • Manage contractors and vendors for larger events

Partnerships and sponsorships

  • Build and execute event partnerships and sponsorships with DMV venues, organizations, and like-minded brands
  • Work with the GM and national team to secure sponsor support and deliver on sponsor commitments

Promotion and community

  • Work with the marketing, editorial, and audience teams to promote events across our podcast, newsletter, website, and social channels
  • Help create editorial-adjacent programming, such as live podcast tapings, panels, and neighborhood meetups, with our hosts and reporters
  • Help execute local PR opportunities around events, including pitching and following up on coverage
  • Be a cultural barometer for the brand: know what matters to DC audiences, who’s shaping local culture, and where our audience spends time, and use that to shape what we program

Insights and measurement

  • Track and report on attendance, revenue, sponsorship, audience growth, and subscription impact for each event, and use the results to refine the plan
  • Share local insights, cultural dynamics, city trends, and new ideas with City Cast’s marketing and membership teams to inform our work nationally

Requirements

What You Bring

  • A builder who is comfortable being both strategic and hands-on. You can set the plan and also run the room, work the door, and fix the problem
  • 3-5 years of experience planning and running events, ideally in media, publishing, arts and culture, or community-focused organizations
  • Experience producing events of different sizes from start to finish, including budgets, contracts, vendors, and logistics
  • Strong relationships with DC venues, organizations, and community groups, or the curiosity and hustle to build them quickly
  • Comfortable managing a budget and measuring results
  • A clear writer and communicator who can pitch partners and write event copy that matches our brand voice
  • Calm under pressure and able to manage multiple events and deadlines at once
  • Genuine enthusiasm for local journalism and for DC and its many communities

Benefits

This position is full-time, with excellent benefits including a pension. Candidates must be based in the D.C. area.
