The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate in and contribute to their communities. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, education, employment and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

Youth Services staff work within a trauma & psychologically informed practice environment; all staff are expected to work creatively towards ensuring that the support needs of all young people are the first priority.

About the role 
Make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness by delivering holistic case management and housing support services through Oasis Transitional Accommodation Service and OASIS drop-in centre. In this role, you will work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to help young people achieve stable, sustainable housing and develop the capabilities required to maintain long-term tenancies. Guided by our model of care, you will apply and promote best-practice frameworks to ensure impactful, client-focused outcomes.  

This full-time, permanent position is based in Surry Hills, NSW, and is remunerated in line with the SCHADS Award, Crisis Accommodation Level 2. Hours are Monday to Friday 38 hours, between 8am-8pm, with occasional weekends. The role requires some work outside of business hours to meet client and service needs and participation in out of hours on call approx. once every 6 weeks.

How you will make an impact
Oasis Youth Service is committed to working in partnership with young people to address the issues contributing to their unique experience of crisis & homelessness, with a particular focus on assisting young people to:

  • Develop life and living skills to prepare for independence 
  • Address issues in relation to health & wellbeing
  • Promote opportunities to overcome exclusion and isolation 
  • Eexplore education, employment pathways and participation 
  • Work towards long term sustainable housing 

What you will bring

  • Degree qualification in social work or related field preferred. Minimum of Diploma level qualification in a relevant discipline - Youth Work, Community Services / Case Management.
  • Demonstrated casework experience working with young people in homelessness or other relevant roles. 
  • A strong commitment to working within a trauma and psychologically informed environment. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the causes of youth homelessness and how to assist young people to work toward long term sustainable housing. 
  • Understanding of relevant health and welfare issues impacting young people experiencing homelessness and the ability to demonstrate this knowledge in the context of a strengths-based case management approach to support and develop appropriate intervention strategies 
  • Ability to create a culturally safe and inclusive workplace/Service 
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external providers.
  • Ability to respond immediately and effectively to unsafe situations including client critical incidents.
  • Capacity to manage time & competing demands, whilst maintaining record keeping, document management, risk management and reporting requirements
  • Flexibility with work hours to meet the operational requirements of the position. 
  • Current NSW Driver’s License
  • Senior First Aid certificate
  • Valid NSW Working with Children Check and willingness to complete National Police Check
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
