Here at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions through our promise "If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way."

We support wellbeing, flexible working and have a generous leave offering. There is the opportunity for growth, learning and career development. No two days are the same.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

As a Business Development Manager within Growth Sectors, you’ll play a key role in bringing BNZ’s Growth Sectors strategy to life. Combining strategic thinking, commercial acumen and strong relationship management, you’ll identify and progress opportunities that create meaningful value for BNZ and our customers.

Working alongside Growth Sectors leaders and our nationwide network of relationship bankers, you’ll connect people, ideas and opportunities—helping to originate, develop and execute initiatives that support the growth of New Zealand businesses and BNZ’s business.

What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?

  • Build trusted relationships with key external partners, industry leaders and stakeholders to strengthen BNZ’s presence across our Growth Sectors.
  • Support the delivery of sector strategies and multiple project streams, coordinating closely with Growth Sectors’ Heads of roles and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Help embed new strategies and initiatives across the Bank by bringing the right people together and building support for change.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of strategic projects, propositions and policy initiatives.
  • Identify business development opportunities through internal and external networks, while supporting thought leadership and sector-related content.
  • Partner with frontline bankers to originate, develop and execute financing opportunities and strengthen client relationships.

What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this role?

You will have a strong work ethic and be a self-starter. You will be a confident communicator and natural relationship builder who enjoys working across a broad network. Curious, commercially minded and comfortable navigating complexity, you’ll bring:

  • At least three years’ experience within the finance or business community, with proven relationship management and business development capability.
  • Strong commercial acumen and an understanding of financial services, credit analysis and the drivers of business success.
  • Confidence presenting plans, recommendations and outcomes to senior leaders and large groups.
  • A collaborative, motivated and proactive approach, as well as the ability to bring together information from multiple sources and turn it into clear, practical insights.
  • A passion for helping New Zealand businesses grow and the ability to work effectively across cultures.
  • Experience working across large organisations and with external agencies or suppliers to deliver successful outcomes.

What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?

This is an important role within a strategically focused team with significant exposure across BNZ and the wider business community. You’ll have the opportunity to build an influential nationwide network and help shape new initiatives that deliver positive outcomes for BNZ, our customers and New Zealand.

Success will come from your ability to deliver, influence, connect and collaborate—bringing stakeholders together to turn opportunities into results.

What is the team culture and environment like?

You’ll join a genuinely supportive and collaborative team that acts as a strategy, origination and growth engine for BNZ. It’s an environment where curiosity and creativity are encouraged, ideas are welcomed, and you’ll have the freedom to take ownership of your work.

The pace can be fast, so if you enjoy variety, building connections and making things happen, you’ll thrive here.
