The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Public Health has an exciting opportunity for a temporary full time Biostatistician 1 to work remote.
The Biostatistician 1 provides statistical support and collaborates with clinical and translation research on the development, implementation, and analysis of data for research studies. Further, the Biostatistician 1 serves as liaison between the department and the research community.
Core Job Functions:
- Formulates analysis plans and writes detailed specifications for analysis of files, consistency checks, tables, and figures.
- Communicates with clients regarding statistical analysis issues.
- Interprets analyses and writes statistical sections of study reports.
- Prepares results for progress reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
- Maintains and documents studies’ databases.
- Consults with study investigators on planning and specifying statistical analysis.
- Provides support to resolve barriers to analysis and consults with other methodologists and statisticians.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions:
The Biostatistician will provide statistical and methodological support for research projects in Preventive Sciences. Responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with investigators and research team members to develop study designs, statistical analysis plans, research protocols, and analytical strategies.
- Conducting statistical analyses of epidemiological, clinical, behavioral, and other research data related to preventive health and disease prevention.
- Performing data cleaning, management, quality control, and preparation of datasets for statistical analysis.
- Applying appropriate statistical methods to evaluate research questions, study outcomes, risk factors, associations, and intervention effects.
- Developing and implementing statistical models, including descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, regression analyses, longitudinal analyses, survival analyses, and other appropriate analytical approaches.
- Using statistical analysis software and programming tools, including R, SAS, SPSS, Stata, and Python, as appropriate for the research project and analytical requirements.
- Developing reproducible statistical programs, scripts, and workflows to support data analysis and quality control.
- Creating statistical tables, graphs, visualizations, and data summaries to communicate research findings effectively.
- Interpreting statistical results and communicating findings to investigators and other research team members.
- Assisting with the preparation of statistical reports, abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications.
- Supporting the development and evaluation of research measures, outcomes, and data collection instruments.
- Conducting data quality assessments and identifying potential issues related to missing data, outliers, data distributions, and study variables.
- Ensuring accuracy, reproducibility, and appropriate documentation of statistical analyses and programming procedures.
- Participating in research meetings and providing statistical consultation throughout the development, implementation, analysis, and dissemination phases of Preventive Sciences research projects.
- Maintaining organized documentation of statistical methods, programming code, datasets, analytical outputs, and results.

Core Qualifications:
- Master's degree in relevant field required. Doctoral Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biostatistics, Health Studies, Neuroscience, Public Health, or closely related field preferred.
- No previous experience required. Minimum 1 year of relevant experience preferred.

- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

- Demonstrate expertise in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health research methods, and study design.
- Demonstrate proficiency in descriptive and inferential statistics, including regression modeling, hypothesis testing, and advanced statistical analysis.
- Experience managing, cleaning, and analyzing large quantitative datasets
- Development of summary statistical reports for scientific collaborators
- Apply best practices in data management, quality assessment, and data validation.
- Utilize statistical programming and analysis tools, including R, SAS, SPSS, Stata, and Python.
- Adhere to research ethics, data confidentiality standards, and scientific reporting requirements.
- Demonstrate strong skills in statistical analysis, programming, data management, and problem solving.
- Analyze complex datasets and develop comprehensive statistical analysis plans.
- Present statistical findings clearly using data visualization.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Translate research questions into appropriate statistical methods and analytical approaches.
- Interpret complex statistical results and communicate findings clearly to multidisciplinary teams.
- Identify statistical issues, recommend solutions, and implement appropriate analytical methods.
- Learn and apply new statistical techniques, software, and analytical tools as required.
- Work independently and collaboratively while maintaining confidentiality.
- Contribute to research publications, presentations, reports, and grant proposals.
