To prepare, bake, and finish a variety of bakery products in line with established recipes and quality standards. The role ensures that all products meet freshness, taste, and presentation expectations while maintaining high levels of hygiene, food safety, and workplace cleanliness. The Baker is also responsible for monitoring ingredient usage, managing baking schedules to meet customer demand, and supporting the overall efficiency and success of the bakery department.

Minimum Requirements:

NQF2 Craft Baking Learnership OR NQF2 Core Skills Programmes 1,2 & 3

In-store Practical Assessment

Key Responsibilities:

Product Preparations

Adhere to ingredient selection and method in strict accordance with the recipe manual

Merchandising

Adhere to the bakery merchandising flow

Keep categories together when merchandising

Merchandise in a visually appealing manner

Customer Service

Give customers undivided attention when serving them within the bakery department

Answer customer queries and redirect to the appropriate supervisor/manager

Promote sales to achieve budget

Hygiene and Housekeeping

Maintain clean-as-you-go procedures during production to avoid food

safety risks

Deep clean post-production to avoid contamination and pest infestation

Ensure equipment is kept clean and in a good working condition

Adhere to safety procedure when operating equipment in the Bakery to avoid any occupational risks

Communicate any equipment faults and abnormalities to the relevant manager

Administration

Analyse sales, customer order book and wastage daily to inform the drafting of the daily production plan

On-the-job training
