Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provide timely, accurate and practical legal advice on legal and regulatory matters affecting MUFG Bank, Ltd., Jakarta Branch, to support day-to-day business decision-making.
- Draft, review and support the negotiation of agreements and other legal documentation for banking transactions, products and operations, including lending, transaction banking, financial markets and distressed assets.
- Provide legal support for new products, transactions and business initiatives, including identifying relevant legal requirements and proposing practical risk-mitigation measures.
- Identify and assess legal risks, promptly escalate material or complex matters, and support the handling of litigation, disputes, regulatory proceedings, investigations and legal hold matters.
- Coordinate with external legal counsel, monitor the quality and timeliness of their work, and review legal fees in accordance with applicable policy and internal approvals.
- Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and support the assessment of their impact on the Jakarta Branch’s business and operations.
- Work closely with business and support functions, help maintain legal privilege where applicable, and support timely reporting of material legal matters through the appropriate Legal reporting line.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in law from a reputable university; Indonesian advocate qualification is preferred.
- Relevant banking and finance legal experience in private practice, an in-house legal function, or both, at a level commensurate with an AVP role.
- Strong understanding of Indonesian laws and regulations relevant to wholesale banking, particularly lending, transaction banking, financial markets, distressed assets and regulatory matters.
- Strong commercial acumen and sound judgment, with the ability to identify and assess legal risks and provide practical, business-focused advice that supports day-to-day decision-making, while appropriately escalating complex or material matters.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, communication, collaboration and stakeholder-management skills.
- Professional proficiency in written and spoken English and Bahasa Indonesia.
- Ability to work independently on assigned matters while seeking guidance from senior Legal team members when appropriate.
