About this Auxiliary Equipment Operator role at Argonne National Laboratory
Argonne is in search of an Auxiliary Equipment Operator who under the supervision of the Foreman and the direction of the Stationary Engineer, performs preventative maintenance and makes minor repairs to all building and related auxiliary equipment for the Steam Plant and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) facility.
Specific Duties
- Starts, stops, and operates all steam plant and CHP equipment
- Performs preventative maintenance and equipment inspections as assigned
- Handles all steam plant chemicals for boiler water treatment
- Cleans assigned auxiliary areas and equipment as assigned
- Performs routine inspections and readings for proper operation
- Assists the Stationary Engineer as required
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

Position Requirements
- High School degree or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems including compressors and pumping equipment
- Minimum of 1 year or equivalent or related experience in operating steam plant equipment
- Stationary Engineers license is required. Selected candidate must obtain license on their own time within 12 months.
- Good knowledge and use of a PC are required
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Good skills in oral and written communication
- Ability to work weekend and rotating shift work

Full timeThe expected hiring range for this position is $39.89-$40.09.Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
