As an Autotransfusion Technician, you’ll be an integral part of a collaborative perioperative team dedicated to supporting safe, high-quality patient care. You’ll operate blood recovery equipment and perform blood recovery procedures while collecting quality control assays and maintaining accurate, organized documentation. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with physicians, nurses, ancillary teams, and fellow caregivers in a fast-paced environment where teamwork and clear communication are valued.

You’ll use your critical-thinking skills to recognize and resolve equipment or procedural concerns with minimal supervision, communicate information clearly and professionally, and assist with training team members. A caregiver in this position works weekends, Saturday and Sunday, 7am-5:30pm. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Collect and document quality control assays. 

• Maintain accurate and orderly documentation of procedures performed. 

• Recognize problems, identify causes and take corrective action with minimal supervision. 

• Communicate information clearly and professionally to physicians, ancillary personnel and colleagues. 

• Assist in training. 

• Participate in maintaining and stocking an adequate inventory of supplies for the work area. 

• Maintain a clean and safe work environment. 

• Follow OSHA required procedures for blood handling. 

• Enhance education through in-services, seminars and certification processes. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Associate’s degree.  

• One year of related technical experience. An additional two years of progressively responsible related experience may substitute the degree requirement.  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• Cell salvage experience.  

Physical Requirements:

• Visual acuity.
• The ability to distinguish colors.
• Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment. May be required to stand for long periods of time.
• Light lifting may be required.
• May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
• Ability to function at a high degree of effectiveness under stressful situations and with all levels of the organization.
• Some on-call coverage is required.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
