Mining is undergoing one of the most significant transformations in its history. As automation, digital technologies, and data-driven decision making reshape mine operations, Caterpillar's Autonomous Hauling Solutions (AHS) team is helping customers unlock safer, more productive, and more sustainable operations. 

As an AHS Architect, you will serve as a commercial and strategic leader who translates customer business challenges into scalable autonomous haulage solutions. You will partner with commercial, technical, operational, dealer, customer, and executive stakeholders to shape solution strategies, support adoption, and deliver measurable operational outcomes. This role combines a solutions mindset, systems thinking, technology leadership, and commercial strategy to help customers adopt autonomy with confidence.

The AHS Architect plays a critical role in positioning Caterpillar as more than an equipment provider. You will help establish Caterpillar as a strategic business partner by translating customer challenges into scalable autonomy solutions that improve safety, increase productivity, reduce cost per ton, and accelerate the adoption autonomous mining technologies. 

You will influence how the mining industry embraces autonomy while shaping commercial strategies, and future business models that drive sustainable growth for both Caterpillar and our customers. 

What You'll Do 

Lead Customer-Centered Solution Development: Partner with stakeholders to understand their strategic priorities, operational constraints, and business challenges. Translate these needs into integrated autonomy solutions that deliver measurable business outcomes. 

Drive Commercial and Technical Strategy: Evaluate opportunities through a balanced lens of: 

• Customer value creation and productivity improvement 

• Commercial viability and sustainable growth 

• Alignment with Caterpillar's long-term autonomy and technology strategy 

Influence the Future of Autonomous Mining: Connect autonomy technologies, digital services, analytics, fleet management systems, and emerging innovations to customer objectives. Help define how technology investments create tangible operational and commercial value. 

Build Strategic Partnerships: Develop trusted relationships with industry leaders, innovation-focused mining companies, and key strategic accounts. Create long-term partnerships that influence future product development and accelerate market adoption. 

Champion Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with teams across Business Development, Mine Operations, Technology, Customer Relationship Management, and Engineering to ensure customer outcomes are achieved through a unified approach. 

Pioneer Innovative Business Models: Help develop creative commercial frameworks that support autonomy adoption, including: 

• Outcome-based agreements 

• Gain-share and risk-sharing models 

• Long-term strategic partnership models 

Serve as the Voice of the Customer: Bring direct customer insights into strategy, planning, and solution development to help Caterpillar advance autonomy solutions that address real customer needs. 

What skills you will have:
Customer Focus: Understands customer priorities, operating constraints, and business objectives. Uses those insights to shape autonomy solutions that improve safety, productivity, cost performance, and adoption confidence. 
Industry Knowledge: Brings strong business acumen and a comprehensive understanding of mining business drivers, operating models, production priorities, cost pressures, capital planning, and site-level constraints. Applies this knowledge to shape autonomy solutions that improve safety, productivity, cost per tonne, asset utilization, and long-term customer value. 
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex customer and business situations, evaluates tradeoffs, identifies risks, and makes sound recommendations in ambiguous environments. 
Effective Communications: Communicates complex autonomy and commercial concepts clearly to senior customer leaders, Cat dealers, and internal stakeholders. Influences decisions through clear logic, credibility, and customer-backed recommendations. 
Negotiating: Ability to support customer and internal alignment on solution scope, value commitments, success measures, risk-sharing principles, and commercial tradeoffs in a constructive and collaborative manner
Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
Business Development: Hands-on experience connecting technology solutions to customer business objectives and demonstrating measurable value through operational and commercial results. Connects technology, operations, people, process, governance, and commercial strategy into integrated solutions that can be implemented and scaled. 

Additional Information:

This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Tucson, AZ or Irving, TX office.  

Domestic relocation assistance is available.

This position will require at least 30 % travel.
