What You Will Achieve
As an Associate Scientist, you will support scientific and technical activities within Pfizer's Sterile Injectables and Biotech Technology (SBT) portfolio while developing laboratory, process and analytical expertise.
You will:
- Support execution of laboratory studies supporting commercial manufacturing, technology transfer, process characterisation, lifecycle management and development programmes.
- Generate, document and organise experimental data in support of technical and business objectives.
- Apply scientific knowledge to support routine technical investigations and laboratory activities.
- Contribute as a member of multidisciplinary project teams.
- Perform laboratory operations in accordance with Pfizer safety, quality and compliance requirements.
- Support senior scientists with execution of experimental programmes and technical activities.
- Assist with laboratory organisation, equipment management and documentation activities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
- Develop technical knowledge across Pfizer's Sterile Injectables and Biotech Technology (SBT) platforms, specifically mammalian cell culture processes.
- Build scientific, technical and problem-solving skills through coaching, training and practical laboratory experience.
How You Will Achieve It
Pfizer's Sterile Injectables and Biotech Technology portfolio comprises multiple approaches for the creation of effective biotherapeutics.
This laboratory-based role supports experimental programmes associated with commercial products and development assets. The Associate Scientist will perform laboratory work, generate technical data and support development and manufacturing technology activities.
You will:
- Support execution of laboratory studies related to process characterisation, technology transfer, process optimisation and lifecycle management activities.
- Conduct laboratory experiments safely and efficiently while meeting quality and compliance requirements.
- Generate, document and organise experimental data using established scientific methods.
- Prepare technical summaries and documentation under guidance from senior colleagues.
- Support troubleshooting activities and technical investigations through data generation and laboratory support.
- Collaborate with analytical, manufacturing, quality and technology colleagues to support programme objectives.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, materials and documentation in accordance with approved procedures.
- Participate in scientific discussions and technical problem-solving activities.
- Support implementation of new technologies, automation tools and digital laboratory capabilities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities that enhance laboratory effectiveness and efficiency.
- Maintain awareness of scientific and technical developments relevant to assigned activities.
- Support inspection readiness and compliance activities as required.
Qualifications:
Must have
Education/Experience:
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related discipline.
- 0-2+ years of directly relevant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
Technical Requirements
- Foundational knowledge of biotechnology, biologics manufacturing, biochemistry, cell biology, chemistry or related scientific disciplines.
- Exposure to academic, research or industrial laboratory environments.
- Understanding of basic experimental design and laboratory techniques.
- Ability to generate, document and organise scientific data.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of laboratory safety principles and quality requirements.
- Demonstrated initiative, learning agility and scientific curiosity.
Nice-to-Have
- Industrial placement or internship experience within the biopharmaceutical industry.
- Exposure to mammalian cell culture, downstream processing.
- Familiarity with GMP-regulated environments.
- Experience using laboratory digital systems and data management tools.
- Basic knowledge of statistical analysis techniques.
- Experience supporting laboratory investigations or improvement initiatives.
