The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the LSU New Orleans invites applications for a tenured Associate Professor position in Power and Energy Systems, beginning Fall 2027.

LSU New Orleans is home to the Power and Energy Research Laboratory (PERL), established in 2009, which serves as a regional hub for advanced power and energy research. PERL maintains strong ties to local industry, utilities, and regional partners, providing rich opportunities for collaboration, applied research, and technology transfer. Recent research areas at PERL include: 1. Integration of renewable energy (solar and wind) into the electric grid, 2. Inverter‑based resources protection, 3. Stability, resiliency, reliability, and security studies for modern power systems, 4. Hardware‑in‑the‑loop real‑time modeling and simulation

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high‑impact, externally funded research program in power and energy systems

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical engineering, particularly in power and energy

  • Supervise graduate students and mentor undergraduate researchers

  • Engage in collaborative research with PERL and regional industry partners

  • Contribute to curriculum development, accreditation activities, and departmental service

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in Electrical Engineering

  • Expertise in power electronics, renewable energy systems, application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in power systems, or a closely related area

  • Prior appointment at the rank of Associate Professor (or equivalent) at an accredited academic institution

  • Evidence of a strong research record, including peer‑reviewed publications

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience securing competitive research funding

  • Industry collaboration or technology‑transfer experience

  • Experience with real‑time simulation platforms or hardware‑in‑the‑loop systems

  • Commitment to inclusive excellence and student success
