Job Description Summary

The Cloud FinOps Engineer is responsible for optimizing cloud financial management practices across enterprise cloud platforms including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This role serves as the bridge between Finance, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, and Application teams to ensure cloud resources are cost-effective, properly governed, accurately allocated, and aligned with business objectives.

The Cloud FinOps Engineer provides financial visibility into cloud spending, develops cost optimization strategies, supports budgeting and forecasting activities, and drives accountability through chargeback/showback reporting. The role is instrumental in establishing a culture of cost awareness while enabling innovation and business growth through efficient cloud adoption.

Job Description:

Cloud Financial Management

  • Monitor and analyze cloud spending across AWS, Azure, and OCI environments.
  • Develop and maintain cloud cost allocation, chargeback, and showback models.
  • Prepare monthly cloud financial reports, variance analyses, and executive dashboards.
  • Support annual budget planning and ongoing cloud spend forecasting.
  • Track cloud consumption trends and identify opportunities for cost reduction.

Cost Optimization

  • Identify underutilized, idle, or oversized cloud resources.
  • Recommend and implement optimization initiatives including:
    • Rightsizing computing resources
    • Storage lifecycle optimization
    • Resource scheduling and automation
    • Reserved capacity and savings plans
    • Backup and retention optimization
  • Quantify financial impact and realized savings from optimization initiatives.
  • Track and report cost savings achieved through FinOps programs.

Service & Operational Support

  • Monitor and manage the Cloud Infrastructure service requests.
  • Triage, prioritize, and coordinate resolution of cloud-related incidents, requests, and operational issues.
  • Work with Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, Application, Security, and vendor teams to ensure timely ticket resolution.
  • Provide cost analysis and financial impact assessments for cloud service requests, upgrades, and infrastructure changes.
  • Track recurring support trends and identify opportunities for automation, optimization, and service improvement.
  • Maintain documentation, knowledge articles, and standard operating procedures related to cloud financial operations and cloud service delivery.
  • Ensure cloud service requests comply with established governance, budgeting, tagging, and cost allocation standards.

Governance & Compliance

  • Develop and enforce cloud tagging and cost attribution standards.
  • Partner with cloud platform teams to ensure financial accountability of cloud resources.
  • Support Cloud Governance and Cloud Operating Model initiatives.
  • Assist in establishing policies, guardrails, and reporting standards related to cloud financial management.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Build dashboards and reports using Power BI, Excel, Cloud Health, native cloud tools, or equivalent platforms.
  • Analyze cost drivers, trends, business consumption patterns, and forecasting models.
  • Produce cloud KPI and FinOps metrics including:
    • Cost per application
    • Cost per business unit
    • Budget versus actual spending
    • Optimization savings realized

Business Partnership

  • Collaborate with Finance teams during planning, budgeting, and forecasting cycles.
  • Advise application owners and business stakeholders on cloud cost implications.
  • Support business cases and total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis for cloud projects.
  • Provide cost estimates for new cloud deployments, cloud migrations, and infrastructure modifications.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Automate reporting and cost data collection processes.
  • Improve cost visibility through tagging, dashboards, and self-service reporting.
  • Support continuous improvement of the organization's FinOps maturity and Cloud Operating Model.
  • Develop scripts, reports, and automation workflows to improve operational efficiency and cloud cost transparency.

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in cloud platforms, cloud operations, financial analysis, infrastructure operations, or FinOps.
  • Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, and/or OCI cost management tools.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience developing reports and dashboards using Power BI or similar tools.
  • Understanding of cloud infrastructure services, including compute, storage, networking, databases, backup, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience working with IT service management platforms such as ServiceNow, Freshservice, or equivalent ticketing systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
