About this Associate Director R&D Lab Platform role at CSL
We are seeking an Associate Director, R&D Lab Platform – Bioinformatics to support the development, integration and ongoing evolution of digital capabilities used across our research and product development laboratories.
Working at the intersection of science, technology and operations, you will collaborate with scientists, bioinformaticians and cross-functional teams to ensure laboratory and scientific platforms meet evolving research needs. With a particular focus on bioinformatics, computational science and scientific data, you will help researchers access, connect, analyse and use complex scientific information more effectively.
As part of Technology Enabled Science, you will contribute to a more connected research environment where laboratory instruments, scientific platforms, automation and data work together effectively. Your work will help reduce the time scientists spend finding and managing information, allowing them to focus on advancing science and making informed decisions.
Your responsibilities
- Contribute to the R&D Lab Platform strategy and roadmap, with a particular focus on bioinformatics, computational capabilities and scientific data.
- Partner with scientists, bioinformaticians, laboratory teams and technology specialists to understand research workflows and translate scientific needs into practical, scalable solutions.
- Support the development, integration, adoption and lifecycle management of platforms used to manage, analyse, integrate and interpret complex research data.
- Help enable connectivity between laboratory instruments, scientific platforms, trusted data repositories and bioinformatics or analytical environments.
- Support the automation and standardisation of scientific data flows, improving data accessibility, quality, traceability and reuse.
- Identify opportunities to simplify workflows, reduce digital friction and improve the researcher experience.
- Collaborate across Technology Enabled Science, R&D, technical operations and external partners to align platform capabilities with broader scientific and digital priorities.
- Support platform governance, including appropriate data standards, access controls, security, risk and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate relevant external technology vendors, including service delivery, platform performance, licensing and continuous improvement.
- Monitor platform adoption and performance, supporting engagement, training and continuous improvement activities.
Your skills and experience
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Life Sciences or a related discipline. A PhD or equivalent advanced professional expertise is desirable but not essential.
- Typically 10+ years of relevant experience across bioinformatics, scientific informatics, research data platforms, digital R&D or scientific technology.
- Experience working within a research, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences or similarly complex environment.
- Strong knowledge of bioinformatics and computational research workflows, including the technologies used to analyse and interpret complex scientific datasets.
- Experience with scientific or laboratory platforms, research data environments, bioinformatics tools, data integration and/or instrument connectivity.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to complex platform implementations and work effectively with scientific, technology and operational stakeholders.
- Experience supporting platform strategy, roadmaps, lifecycle management, governance, service delivery and vendor relationships.
- Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate scientific and business needs into practical technology solutions.
