This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Civil & Structural Engineer to join BakerHicks at Associate level, based in our Bristol office, and play a key role in establishing and developing our Civil & Structural capability in the region. Working closely with the Director/Associate Director and wider business, you will help grow the team, lead project delivery and contribute to the continued development of BakerHicks’ presence in Bristol.

You will be joining a collaborative and technically diverse business, with the opportunity to work across a range of sectors and multidisciplinary projects. This role offers the chance to combine technical leadership and project delivery with the opportunity to influence how the regional team develops, the capabilities it offers and the work it delivers.

We are looking for a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer with substantial experience leading projects and project teams within a design consultancy environment. You will bring strong technical expertise, commercial awareness and the ability to lead and inspire others, together with the ambition to help establish a high-performing regional team.

You will play a key role in leading Civil & Structural design delivery, supporting recruitment and team development, providing technical assurance, contributing to tenders and fee estimates, and helping to build the capability and project portfolio of the Bristol team. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to have a meaningful influence on the development of a regional business, while being part of the wider BakerHicks Civil & Structural network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help establish and develop the Civil & Structural team in Bristol.
  • Lead design delivery across multiple projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide technical leadership, design reviews and assurance.
  • Support team performance, recruitment and capability development.
  • Contribute to tenders, fee estimates and commercial project management.
  • Mentor and develop engineers across the team.
  • Support the wider development of BakerHicks’ Civil & Structural capability.

Skills and Experience

  • Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer, CEng MICE or MIStructE.
  • Strong experience leading projects and project teams.
  • Broad technical knowledge across civil and/or structural design.
  • Experience delivering major or complex projects within relevant sectors.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of change control.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and people development skills.
  • SC clearance, or eligibility to obtain this.
  • Full clean current UK driving licence.
