About this Associate Attorney - Litigation role at Build My Great Team
Colorado Springs, CO | Full-Time | In-Office
35 Years | Construction, Employment & Commercial Litigation | Room to Grow
For over 35 years, Mulliken Weiner Berg & Jolivet P.C. has proudly served the Colorado business community. The firm assists clients across a diverse range of practice areas, including commercial transactions, commercial and residential real estate, employment law, estate planning and probate, construction law, and complex commercial and real estate litigation. The firm has consistently been selected as a Best Workplace and is located in downtown Colorado Springs with a view of Pikes Peak.
The firm is looking for an attorney with a few years of litigation experience that is hungry to learn, develop, and handle a case load. In return, MWBJ offers direct partner mentorship, real case responsibility, and the stability of a firm with a long-standing reputation in Southern Colorado.
About the Role
You will handle a litigation caseload across construction, employment, real estate, and commercial litigation matters, working closely with the partners from intake through resolution. From day one you are expected to draft pleadings and motions, run discovery, take and defend depositions, and appear in court for hearings and trials. Clients will know you by name, and the partners will lean on your judgment.
A book of business is not required. As you grow, you will be encouraged to build client relationships and your presence in the Colorado Springs business and legal community.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of construction, employment, real estate, and commercial litigation matters from intake through settlement, trial, and/or appeal.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and written discovery requests and responses.
- Conduct legal research and give partners clear, practical analysis on case strategy.
- Take and defend depositions, prepare witnesses, and work with experts.
- Appear in state and federal court for hearings, conferences, arbitration and trial, first-chairing more matters as you gain experience.
- Represent clients in mediation and settlement negotiations.
- Advise clients on best practices and contract disputes (commercial, employment, construction, etc.) before they turn into lawsuits.
- Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, and the court, and keep clients updated on their case.
- Keep accurate time records and meet billable hour expectations consistent with firm standards.
Requirements
Experience and background:
- 3+ years of civil litigation experience as a practicing attorney.
- Experience in construction, employment, or commercial litigation. Exposure to more than one is a plus.
- Proven ability to draft persuasive motions and briefs and manage discovery independently.
- Deposition and courtroom experience preferred.
Must-haves:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and an active Colorado bar license in good standing.
- Eager, hungry, and ambitious, with a real drive to grow into a bigger role at a firm with a long history and a strong reputation.
- Looking for a long-term home, not a short stop on the way somewhere else.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a client-first approach to service.
- Excellent attention to detail, sound judgment, and a high standard for professional and ethical conduct.
Why This Role Stands Out
- A firm with 35 years of history and a consistent Best Workplace selection, not a revolving door.
- Real case responsibility early, with partners who mentor rather than just delegate.
- A focused mix of construction, employment, real estate, and commercial work, so you build depth in the practice areas that keep business clients coming back.
- A firm where your work gets noticed, and growth does not mean waiting years in line.
- Firm-paid health and life insurance, a SIMPLE IRA with a 3% match, and paid parking downtown with a view of Pikes Peak.
Benefits
- Salary: $115,000 to $140,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
- Discretionary quarterly and annual bonus program.
- Firm-paid health insurance, with optional dental and vision, plus health savings or flexible spending account.
- SIMPLE IRA with a 3% firm match.
- Firm-paid life insurance.
- Paid parking and free access to the building’s fitness facilities.
- 8.5 paid firm holidays, a generous paid time off policy, and 48 hours of HFWA paid sick leave.
How to Apply
