About this Associate Accounting, Commercial Controllers role at Capital One
This role directly supports Capital One’s Commercial Broker Dealers registered with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the SEC, focusing on Accounts Payable operations alongside general ledger accounting. We are seeking a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, builds strong cross-functional relationships, and actively identifies opportunities for process improvement and technology-driven automation. You will work with a high-performing team to learn accounting processes and procedures at Capital One and for the Commercial Broker Dealers, and have the opportunity to grow your responsibilities and impact through project work.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as liaison between the line of business and Enterprise Supplier Management to manage accounts payable including onboarding vendors, processing and routing invoices for payment, and tracking contracts and ongoing business expenses
- Calculate and post accurate month-end expense accruals, prepare general ledger journal entries, and perform account reconciliations
- Prepare expense variance analysis and assist with reporting for month end close.
- Interact directly with Finance, business partners, internal stakeholders, and associates throughout the Controller’s group
- Support team automation and data transformation efforts
- Identify and drive process efficiencies
- Obtain and maintain a Series 99 Operations Professional license
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, or military experience
- At least 1 year of experience in accounting, banking, or securities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- 2+ years of experience in accounting, banking, or securities
- Hands-on experience managing end-to-end Accounts Payable workflows
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or CPA candidate

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $81,700 - $93,300 for Associate, Accounting
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
