The Assistant Vice President of Development serves as a senior fundraising professional and strategic partner within the Ivy Tech Foundation. Reporting to the Vice President of Philanthropy, this position functions as one of the Foundation's lead fundraisers for systemwide initiatives and cross-campus philanthropic opportunities, with primary responsibility for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major and principal gift donors.

The AVP manages a portfolio of qualified major and principal gift prospects and donors, focused primarily on securing gifts of $100,000 and above. This position develops and executes strategies to secure six- and seven-figure commitments that advance Ivy Tech's statewide priorities, strategic initiatives, workforce development efforts, student success programs, scholarship opportunities, and campaign objectives.

Working collaboratively with campus development leaders, Foundation colleagues, College leadership, and volunteer leaders, the AVP advances philanthropic opportunities that transcend individual campuses and require a coordinated, donor-centered approach. The position provides leadership through influence, fundraising expertise, and collaboration while helping create a seamless donor experience across the system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Major and Principal Gift Fundraising

  • Manage an active portfolio of major and principal gift prospects and donors.

  • Develop and execute comprehensive cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies designed to secure gifts of $100,000 and above.

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals, corporations, and foundations capable of making transformational philanthropic investments.

  • Conduct substantive donor and prospect visits.

  • Prepare and present compelling gift proposals, case statements, stewardship reports, and donor communications.

  • Facilitate complex gift discussions and negotiate gift agreements in collaboration with Foundation and College leadership.

Systemwide Fundraising

  • Identify, cultivate, and secure support for statewide priorities, including student success, workforce alignment, academic innovation, capital initiatives, scholarships, and strategic programs.

  • Serve as the lead fundraising resource for designated systemwide initiatives and projects.

  • Partner with academic and administrative leaders to translate institutional priorities into philanthropic opportunities.

  • Support campaign planning and execution, including leadership giving and campaign strategy development.

Regional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with campus development officers to identify, qualify, and advance major gift opportunities that involve multiple campuses or statewide impact.

  • Assist in developing coordinated donor strategies for shared prospects and funding opportunities.

  • Foster collaboration and alignment among Foundation, campus, and college leadership to create a seamless donor experience.

  • Provide fundraising expertise and support for high-priority campus initiatives when appropriate.

Donor Stewardship and Relationship Management

  • Ensure donors receive meaningful stewardship and engagement opportunities that demonstrate the impact of their investments.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of donor interactions, proposals, opportunities, and next steps within the Foundation's constituent relationship management system.

  • Coordinate stewardship activities with Foundation and campus colleagues.

  • Build and sustain long-term relationships with donors, alumni, community leaders, volunteers, and strategic partners.

Leadership and Strategic Engagement

  • Represent the Foundation and College at events, meetings, and community engagements.

  • Provide strategic insight regarding fundraising opportunities, donor trends, and philanthropic priorities.

  • Collaborate with Foundation leadership on annual planning, campaign strategies, and fundraising initiatives.

  • Support board members, volunteers, and executive leadership in donor engagement activities.

  • Promote a culture of collaboration, excellence, accountability, and donor-centered fundraising.

QUALIFICATIONS & KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master's degree or professional fundraising certification preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including demonstrated success in major gift fundraising.

  • Proven record of securing six- and seven-figure philanthropic commitments from individuals, corporations, and foundations.

  • Experience managing a complex donor portfolio and moving prospects through the full fundraising cycle.

  • Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic fundraising plans.

  • Experience working within higher education, healthcare, or similarly complex nonprofit organizations preferred.

  • Experience participating in capital campaigns or comprehensive fundraising initiatives preferred.
