About this Assistant Superintendent role at Essel
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Superintendent to join our growing construction team in the San Diego area. This role will work closely with the Superintendent to oversee daily field operations, ensure projects stay on schedule, maintain quality standards, and promote a safe work environment. The ideal candidate has experience in commercial construction and is looking to continue growing their career in field leadership.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Superintendent in managing day-to-day construction activities on active job sites.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to ensure work is completed safely and on schedule.
- Monitor project progress and help maintain the construction schedule.
- Conduct daily job site walks to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with project plans and specifications.
- Enforce OSHA safety standards and company safety policies.
- Assist with inspections and coordinate with local building officials as needed.
- Track deliveries, materials, and equipment to ensure work progresses without delays.
- Help identify and resolve field issues before they impact the schedule.
- Review drawings, specifications, and RFIs to ensure proper execution of work.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, site logs, and progress documentation.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager on scheduling, budgeting, and project updates.
- Assist with punch list completion and project closeout activities.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience as an Assistant Superintendent, Foreman, or Lead Carpenter on commercial construction projects.
- Experience with ground-up and/or tenant improvement (TI) projects.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and scheduling.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and job site safety practices.
- Proficient with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction management software is preferred.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation.
