The Position: The College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, invites nominations and applications for an Assistant Professor of Exercise Science in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation. The Assistant Professor of Exercise Science is a 9-month, tenure-track, full-time faculty position. The successful candidate will complement or add to existing strengths within the Exercise Science Program and the College of Education and Health Professions. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate both synergy with existing teaching strengths and a commitment to promoting a culture of research excellence.Primary Duties and Responsibilities of the Assistant Professor of Exercise Science include establishing a research agenda capable of securing external funding, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at professional conferences; teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Exercise Science; supervising theses, dissertations, and honors projects; mentor/advise both undergraduate and graduate students; and providing service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
This is an in-person position. On-campus presence is an essential function of this position. Extensive in-person engagement in activities such as office hours, student advising, collaborative work, and departmental, college, and university committee meetings is required to advance student success, departmental effectiveness, and the mission of the college and the university.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Exercise Science or related field conferred by the start of employment
An established or emerging research agenda with clear trajectory toward external funding. The area of research inquiry is open, but focal areas include the following: metabolic health, cardiac physiology, respiratory physiology, molecular signaling, female-specific physiology, or multi-omics
Record of refereed peer-reviewed publications and presentations
Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of interdisciplinary research bridging exercise science, health, and education
Postdoctoral experience
Strong potential for, or history of securing external funding
Evidence of effective teaching and student mentorship
Additional Information:
This position is a Designated Research Position and is regulated by the Arkansas Research Education Protection Act of 2025.
