Position Summary (General Description of Position)

The successful candidate will serve as a faculty member within the Nurse Practitioner Programs at the Barry University School of Nursing, with primary responsibilities in teaching, clinical education, and program development. This individual will support the preparation of advanced practice nurses through high-quality didactic and clinical instruction, student mentorship, and active participation in program advancement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Teaching graduate-level courses within the Nurse Practitioner Programs (Family and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care) in online, hybrid, and/or on-campus formats.
  • Providing academic advising and mentorship to Nurse Practitioner students.
  • Guiding, supervising, and evaluating students in clinical practica and practice-focused projects.
  • Participating in clinical site engagement and supporting student placement, as applicable.
  • Engaging in scholarly and professional activities that support clinical excellence and evidence-based practice.
  • Contributing to curriculum development, course design, and continuous program improvement to ensure alignment with accreditation standards.
  • Collaborating with faculty and clinical partners to support interprofessional education and enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Planning, organizing, and delivering high-quality instruction using technology-enhanced strategies and simulation-based teaching methods, as appropriate.
  • Providing timely and constructive feedback to students while maintaining effective communication with students, colleagues, and university leadership through university-supported platforms.
  • Supporting the mission and values of Barry University School of Nursing by fostering diversity, cultural sensitivity, and academic excellence in all teaching, clinical, and mentoring activities.

This faculty position is integral to the continued growth and success of the School of Nursing’s Nurse Practitioner Programs and offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the preparation of Family and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners who will serve diverse communities.

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)

  • Utilize face-to-face, online, and hybrid/blended teaching modalities to facilitate student learning in graduate-level Nurse Practitioner coursework (Family and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care), as assigned by the department chair.
  • Develop and implement appropriate assessment and evaluation methods, including examinations and clinical competency evaluations, for advanced practice nursing content.
  • Serve in leadership and participatory roles on School of Nursing and University committees, contributing to program development and institutional initiatives.
  • Evaluate student progress in the acquisition of clinical, diagnostic, and scientific knowledge, and effectively communicate performance outcomes to students, faculty, and program leadership.
  • Maintain proficiency in technology-mediated teaching platforms and relevant instructional tools to enhance learning, engagement, and program delivery.
  • Participate in university and community service activities, and collaborate with faculty and staff to support student recruitment and promote the Nurse Practitioner programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the program administrator to support the mission, goals, and ongoing success of the School of Nursing.

Qualifications/Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field (DNP or PhD preferred).
  • Current, active certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • National board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience in graduate nursing education.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical practice and teaching within an advanced practice nursing role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with active learning strategies and technology-enhanced instruction.
  • Experience working within a collaborative, interdisciplinary educational environment.
  • Openness to diverse forms of scholarship, including practice-based and applied research.
