As we continue our accelerated growth trajectory, we're launching new products, expanding into new markets, and building increasingly sophisticated helathcare operations. We are seeking an Assistant General Counsel – Healthcare & Telemedicine to work closely with the General Counsel and serve as a key legal and regulatory resource for our healthcare businesses.  

This role will have particular responsibility for medical group relationships, physicians and nurse practitioners, telemedicine, prescribing, provider licensing, and state and federal healthcare regulations. The ideal candidate will be a healthcare attorney who can serve as the company’s go-to legal resource for medical group, prescriber, and telemedicine regulatory matters and translate complex requirements into practical guidance for the business.

Responsibilities   

Healthcare, Telemedicine & Provider Regulatory 

  • Serve as the primary legal resource and point person for matters involving medical groups, physicians, nurse practitioners, prescribers, and other healthcare professionals 

  • Advise leadership, clinical, operations, product, pharmacy, and business teams on federal and state healthcare and telemedicine laws.  

  • Monitor and interpret state-by-state telehealth, remote prescribing, provider licensing, scope-of-practice, standards-of-care, and medical practice requirements. 

  • Advise on corporate practice of medicine (CPOM) requirements and the structure and operation of relationships with medical groups and healthcare professionals. 

  • Provide legal guidance on medical group agreements, provider arrangements, independent contractor relationships, physician and NP agreements, and other healthcare partnerships. 

  • Advise on provider onboarding, credentialing, prescribing authority, licensing, and ongoing regulatory requirements. 

  • Evaluate new products, services, clinical workflows, and prescribing practices for healthcare regulatory considerations. 

Healthcare Compliance & Regulatory 

  • Develop and maintain compliance frameworks addressing applicable federal and state healthcare laws and regulations. 

  • Monitor regulatory developments from state medical and pharmacy boards, DEA, FDA, and other applicable regulatory agencies. 

  • Advise on telehealth compliance, remote and controlled-substance prescribing, patient consent, provider requirements, pharmacy operations, and healthcare services. 

  • Manage and coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, investigations, and inspections. 

  • Advise on privacy and data-security requirements applicable to patient health information and healthcare operations. 

Legal Leadership & Business Support  

  • Provide high-level legal and regulatory advice to executive leadership on complex, high-impact matters. 

  • Partner with the General Counsel on strategic legal initiatives, product launches, new business opportunities, and expansion into new markets. 

  • Establish and scale legal policies, controls, and processes aligned with the company’s growth objectives and risk tolerance. 

  • Lead, mentor, and oversee members of the legal department. 

  • Oversee critical transactions and litigation matters, including outside counsel strategy and budgets. 

  • Serve as a trusted business partner who can balance regulatory risk with commercial objectives and provide practical, solutions-oriented guidance. 

Qualifications  

Education & Experience 

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school with an active bar membership. 

  • 5+ years of legal experience, with significant experience in healthcare regulatory, healthcare compliance, telemedicine, pharmaceutical, pharmacy, or a similarly regulated healthcare environment. 

  • Demonstrated experience advising medical groups, physicians, nurse practitioners, prescribers, or other healthcare professionals. 

  • Strong understanding of telemedicine, remote prescribing, provider licensing, scope of practice, CPOM, and state medical board requirements. 

  • Experience interpreting and operationalizing state-by-state telehealth and prescribing requirements. 

  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements involving medical groups, healthcare providers, prescribers, pharmacies, or other healthcare partners. 

  • Strong understanding of applicable federal and state healthcare, pharmacy, FDA, DEA, privacy, and compliance requirements. 

  • Proven ability to manage regulatory matters and compliance frameworks within a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.  

Ideal Candidate 

  • Healthcare attorney with experience working directly with telemedicine companies, medical groups, physician practices, pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, or other healthcare organizations. 

  • Comfortable being the go-to legal resource for healthcare provider, medical group, telemedicine, and prescribing questions. 

  • Able to translate complex regulations into clear, practical guidance for non-legal stakeholders. 

  • Strong business judgment, communication skills, and ability to work effectively with executives, physicians, NPs, clinical leadership, operations, product, pharmacy, compliance, and outside counsel. 

  • Proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable operating with a high degree of ownership and autonomy in an entrepreneurial environment.
