POSITION SPECIFICS
The Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures at Penn State (University Park) invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor position in German (non-tenure-track), to begin in August 2027, with flexibility.
Responsibilities include coordinating our residential basic German language program and supervising graduate teaching assistants who teach in the basic language program, as well as teaching introductory, intermediate and advanced German language classes, and any combination of literature and culture (including visual culture), business German, or linguistics courses based on expertise. Teaching load is three courses per semester, with reductions for coordination duties.
Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in English and German and have completed a Ph.D. in German or in a related field by the appointment date. Demonstrated excellence in teaching German is required, as well as knowledge of current approaches and theories of foreign-language pedagogy. Rank will be determined based on education and experience.
