About the Position

The Asset Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing the complete lifecycle of the company's Class 8 assets, with a primary focus on trailer utilization, maintenance oversight, compliance, cost control, and asset disposition.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring the fleet is right-sized to support freight demand while maximizing uptime, controlling total cost of ownership, and maintaining compliance with DOT and FMCSA safety and regulatory requirements.

The Asset Manager works closely with operations, maintenance teams, customers, vendors, OEMs, dealers, leasing companies, and terminal partners to ensure assets are available, productive, properly maintained, and strategically managed throughout their lifecycle.

Responsibilities include:

Asset Lifecycle & Fleet Management

  • Manage the complete asset lifecycle from specification and acquisition through in-service utilization, replacement, and final disposal or resale.
  • Track and analyze fleet size, asset age, utilization rates, availability, and out-of-service ratios to ensure the trailer pool is properly sized to freight demand.
  • Develop and manage trailer replacement and capital expenditure plans.
  • Evaluate lease-vs-buy and new-vs-used acquisition opportunities based on operational requirements and total cost of ownership.
  • Coordinate trailer disposal, auction, trade-in, and resale activities to maximize residual asset value.

Fleet Utilization & Transportation Management

  • Monitor trailer location, dwell time, detention, and utilization through GPS and telematics systems.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce idle, underutilized, and lost trailers.
  • Manage trailer pools with customers, brokers, drop yards, and terminal partners.
  • Resolve trailer shortages, surpluses, and equipment imbalances across the network.
  • Partner with operations teams to ensure assets are positioned where they are needed to support customer and freight requirements.

Maintenance & Asset Reliability

  • Partner with maintenance and shop teams to oversee preventive maintenance schedules and asset availability.
  • Monitor DOT annual inspections, repair schedules, tire programs, and repair turnaround times.
  • Identify recurring maintenance issues and opportunities to reduce downtime and repair costs.
  • Coordinate with third-party maintenance providers to ensure repairs are completed efficiently and to company standards.
  • Monitor asset condition and make recommendations regarding repair, replacement, or retirement.

Compliance & Regulatory Management

  • Ensure fleet assets remain compliant with applicable FMCSA, DOT, and state regulations.
  • Manage licensing, registration, permits, inspections, and required renewals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records for each asset.
  • Partner with internal teams and vendors to resolve compliance issues quickly and prevent operational disruptions.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Negotiate with OEMs, dealers, and leasing companies on new trailer orders, trade-ins, pricing, and master lease agreements.
  • Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships across equipment, maintenance, tires, trailer washouts, telematics, and other fleet services.
  • Evaluate vendor performance, pricing, service levels, and contract terms.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service quality while reducing overall fleet costs.

Data, Reporting & Financial Analysis

  • Maintain accurate asset records, including VINs, titles, registrations, warranties, depreciation schedules, and lifecycle information.
  • Ensure asset information is accurately maintained within fleet management and TMS systems.
  • Analyze total cost of ownership by trailer and asset class.
  • Develop and monitor fleet performance metrics, including utilization, downtime, maintenance costs, age, and replacement requirements.
  • Prepare regular reports and recommendations for senior leadership to support capital planning and strategic fleet decisions.

The Opportunity: Own the Asset Lifecycle

This role provides an opportunity to have a direct impact on the efficiency, reliability, and financial performance of ITS Logistics' equipment fleet.

The Asset Manager will have visibility across the entire asset lifecycle and will work directly with operations, maintenance, finance, vendors, and leadership to make data-driven decisions that improve fleet performance.

Success in this role means keeping the right equipment in the right place, at the right time, while balancing service requirements, maintenance needs, regulatory compliance, and total cost of ownership.

Who We're Looking For: Honest. Adaptable. Committed

At ITS, how you work matters as much as what you accomplish. We're looking for people who embody:

HONEST — Being direct and transparent in every situation because you care.

ADAPTABLE — Turning adversity into opportunity and thriving in change.

COMMITTED — Being all-in for yourself, your teammates, our clients, and winning every day.
