Berklee Valencia campus is the first international campus of Berklee College of Music and its first campus outside Boston. Located in Valencia’s iconic City of Arts and Sciences, the campus prepares students for careers in the global music and entertainment industry.


Position

Berklee College of Music invites applications for a Part-time Faculty position in the Contemporary Performance (Production Concentration) Master’s Program to teach the course titled, The Artist as a Startup, delivered on-site at Berklee Valencia (Valencia, Spain).


The faculty member will teach under the supervision of the Program Director of the Contemporary Performance (Production Concentration) Master’s Program.


About the Course

In today’s music industry, artists need more than creative talent to build sustainable careers. They must understand how to define their artistic vision, promote, distribute, and monetize their work, identify emerging industry trends, and apply business principles to their artistic practice.

In The Artist as a Startup, students develop practical business skills to navigate the creative industries, launch and develop their artistic projects, and build sustainable careers. The course explores strategies for applying business / entrepreneurship principles to their own artistic practice and for responding to the evolving music industry.


Key course topics include:

  • Economics and emerging trends in the industry
  • The live music sector
  • Recording and publishing sectors
  • Marketing and promotion
  • Understanding and building an artist team
  • Entrepreneurship and strategic planning

Start date: January 2027 (Spring semester)


Required Qualifications

  • Legal authorization to work in Spain (EU citizenship or valid work visa/authorization)
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • 10+ years of professional experience in the music and entertainment industry, particularly in live entertainment (festivals, concerts, and event organization), artist management, or record labels
  • Established professional connections within the music and entertainment industry
  • Experience teaching and/or providing professional training
  • Commitment to Berklee’s mission, vision, and values
  • Student-centered approach and a passion for supporting aspiring music professionals
  • Commitment to diversity across individuals, perspectives, musical styles, and curricula
  • Ability to provide individual student guidance during office hours

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience at the Higher education level, in areas such as marketing, live entertainment, music publishing, or entrepreneurship
  • Knowledge of the European music industry and labor framework
  • Master’s degree or PhD
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish
