Overall Summary:

The HRIS Architect (Workday) is a hands-on functional and technical role responsible for configuring, supporting, and enhancing the organization’s Workday platform. This role partners with HR, Payroll, Benefits, Talent, Finance, and IT to translate business needs into scalable Workday solutions. The HRIS Architect will work across configuration, business processes, security, integrations, reporting, testing, and production support.

Job Responsibilities:

Workday Configuration

  • Configure and maintain Workday functionality across Core HCM and related functional areas.

  • Design and maintain business processes, condition rules, validations, notifications, approvals, and organizational structures.

  • Troubleshoot complex system issues and recommend scalable, maintainable solutions.

  • Identify opportunities to simplify and automate HR processes through Workday.

Security

  • Configure and maintain Workday security groups, domain security policies, business process security, and role-based access.

  • Evaluate security impacts associated with system changes, reorganizations, and new functionality.

  • Support access reviews, audits, segregation-of-duties controls, and security remediation.

  • Troubleshoot security issues across roles, organizations, domains, and business processes.

Integrations and Data

  • Partner with IT and vendors to support inbound and outbound Workday integrations.

  • Provide functional requirements, field mappings, testing, validation, and troubleshooting support.

  • Help identify whether integration issues originate from Workday configuration, security, data, middleware, or downstream systems.

  • Create and maintain EIBs for data loads, updates, and extracts.

  • Support integration testing for releases, vendor changes, and system enhancements.

Projects and Enhancements

  • Own smaller and medium-sized Workday enhancements from requirements through deployment.

  • Participate in larger Workday implementations and strategic initiatives.

  • Translate business requirements into functional designs and Workday configuration.

  • Develop test scenarios, perform system testing, coordinate UAT, and support production deployment.

  • Identify dependencies across configuration, security, reporting, integrations, and data.

Reporting and Production Support

  • Develop and maintain Workday reports, calculated fields, dashboards, and data extracts.

  • Perform data validation and reconciliation associated with system changes and integrations.

  • Provide advanced Workday support and root-cause analysis for escalated issues.

  • Maintain configuration, support, and process documentation.

  • Support Workday releases and adoption of new functionality.

  • Develop test scenarios and test scripts based on review of feature release documentation.

Controls and Compliance

  • Follow established change-management and production-control processes.

  • Maintain appropriate documentation and testing for Workday changes.

  • Support SOX controls, internal audits, external audits, and recurring access reviews.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 3-5 years of HRIS experience with meaningful hands-on Workday configuration experience.

  • Workday security and integration experience strongly preferred.

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge and experience with Workday Studio, Core Connectors, Cloud Connect, APIs, or web services.

  • Core HCM and business process configuration.

  • Knowledge and experience with Payroll, Time Tracking, Absence, Benefits, Recruiting, or Compensation.

  • Workday release management and regression testing, including test script creation and release reviews with stakeholders.

  • Experience working in a SOX-controlled environment.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong hands-on experience configuring and supporting Workday HCM in a production environment.

  • Demonstrated Workday security experience, including security groups, domains, business process security, and role-based access.

  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting Workday integrations.

  • Experience with EIBs, Workday reporting, and calculated fields.

  • Ability to understand downstream impacts of configuration changes across security, integrations, reporting, and data.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to translate business requirements into practical and scalable solutions.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across HR, Payroll, Finance, IT, and external partners.

  • Ability to independently manage assigned work and recognize when broader architectural decisions require escalation.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment. Requires regular computer use and close visual acuity for analyzing data, reviewing system configuration, and performing extensive reading. May occasionally be required to lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Travel

  • Overnight/North America: Less than 10%
