JOB SUMMARY:
The Applications Engineer position requires a well-rounded engineer capable of evaluating a problem in a customer’s plant. From the evaluation, he or she then develops a mental vision of a creative, effective, efficient, and economically viable solution to address a customer’s needs. This mental vision will be converted to a conceptual 3d model, budget and quote for a turnkey solution. This individual will have an aptitude and previous job knowledge regarding handling automation equipment and various industrial production systems.
EDUCATION:
Required: Non-degreed candidates must have equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering or closely related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Required: 6 or more years’ experience in the design and construction of automation machinery and equipment.
POSITION REQUIREMENT(S): Specialized Skills/License/Certification
Required: Competency with both Solid Works and Auto Cad. Competency with electrical control systems for automated equipment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, problem solving, critical thinking, close attention to detail, and committed team player. Possess excellent planning and organization skills. Strong computer skills including MS Word, Project, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Preferred: Familiar with Allen Bradley control systems, and software. Experience working in ERP systems.
CORE COMPETENCIES (Essential Job Functions):
- Work directly with sales and the customer to identify opportunities and develop solutions to meet customer needs.
- Provide expertise and technical support to sales team as needed.
- Research and analyze customer design specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility and cost of new automation equipment.
- Take machine and process ideas from conception to an easily visualized and workable system for presentation to our clients in a Solid Works format.
- Estimate labor and material cost to design and build new equipment.
- Work with various contractors around customer facilities to provide SOW’s and get estimates for turnkey installation of automation solutions.
- Generate and review quotations for proposed equipment.
- Willingness to travel and meet customers onsite to discuss needs for future and existing projects.
- Select materials and components of construction and understanding of the workings of mechanical systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports. Confer with other engineers and personnel to relay project scope, equipment concepts, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
- Complete other special projects and job tasks as assigned.
