Introduction to the job

At ASML, Applications Engineering enables customer success through the deployment and optimization of advanced lithography and metrology solutions. As a Senior Field Application Engineer, you will support customer technology ramps, process optimization, high-volume manufacturing (HVM), and fab startup activities while serving as a trusted technical advisor and problem solver.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead customer-facing projects supporting technology node transitions, fab startup, production ramp, and process optimization.
  • Drive technical issue resolution using data analysis, root cause investigation, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Collaborate with customer engineering teams and ASML global experts to improve process control, overlay performance, yield, and productivity.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI), qualification, manufacturing readiness, and technology transfer activities.
  • Act as the primary interface between customers and ASML application, product, and development organizations.
  • Lead technical reviews, training sessions, and customer engagements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building local application engineering capabilities.
  • Develop and share best practices, knowledge, and technical expertise
  • Travel of approximately <15%  JP domestic and overseas

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field (Master's or PhD preferred).
  • 4+ years of experience in Applications Engineering, Process Engineering, Yield Engineering, Lithography, Metrology, or Semiconductor Manufacturing.
  • Customer-facing experience supporting technical projects and escalations.
  • Experience with technology ramps, yield improvement, process control, or fab startup environments preferred.
  • Strong analytical capabilities using Python, MATLAB, JMP, SQL, or similar tools.

  • Semiconductor process control, lithography, metrology, and overlay knowledge.
  • Strong problem-solving, statistical analysis, and data interpretation skills.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and project leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently in dynamic, fast-paced customer environments.
  • Proven mentoring, coaching, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Other Information

  • Up to 25% travel may be required.
  • May involve long-term customer-site assignments and international collaboration.
  • Ability to work in semiconductor manufacturing and cleanroom environments.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
