Office of Information Technology


The Application Administrator in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) directly supports the technology needs of several divisions of Brown University, including Dining Services, Residential Life, and several additional auxiliary departments.  The Application Administrator will serve as the primary employee supporting the computer systems and their day-to-day operations for the departments.


The Application Administrator will:


  • Serve as the application administrator for operational computing systems, configuring the systems to meet functional requirements
  • Assist staff in departments who also administer computing systems
  • Assist in establishing the roadmap for the computing systems that are run by our customers
  • Participate in the implementation of new systems being implemented for supported departments
  • Assist in partnering with other internal teams to improve application integration and automation with other University Core Systems
  • Assist with reporting needs

The Application Administrator is responsible for administering the suite of applications used across our diverse customer base.  They work in concert with departmental staff who run the operations of their units. They are responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the department, including tier 1 triage of problems.  They additionally support the contract process and security questions. 


While supporting the applications the Application Administrator will look to evaluate existing systems, make recommendations for improvements, streamline processes and procedures, and serve as a resource to technical and non-technical users of these applications.


The Application Administrator is  required to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation schedule.  While on-call, they must be available to answer calls/emails after normal working hours and on weekends/holidays depending on the rotation order. Because this role supports departments that directly serve students, the Application Administrator may occasionally be required to work outside of standard business hours. 


Education


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience


  • 2-3 years of experience with application support or administration to include some of the following:
    • Enterprise housing management 
    • Meal plan management 
    • Enterprise ticketing systems
  • Experience in Higher Education is highly preferred
  • Broad understanding of mainstream application development tools, database systems, software development methodologies, and integration methods and technologies
  • Proficiency in any code-based programming language is highly preferred
  • Project management skills with experience managing the implementations of and upgrades to business or administrative applications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (both oral and written)
  • Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize activities
  • Strong application support/administration abilities to troubleshoot, support, and maintain critical application suites/software components supporting a 24x7 operation
  • Strong problem solving skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage projects and assist in planning projects including schedules
  • Customer service oriented
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities
  • Understanding and comfortable working with basic IP networks 
  • Experience with Google Suite preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office applications preferred
