The Investment Operations team is responsible for supporting the investment groups in transacting in multiple products and operating across various global markets and jurisdictions.  The team operates and manages investment middle office functions critical to the life cycle events of various investment products resident in the portfolio. 
The Analyst within the Derivative Operations team plays a key role in middle office workflows including analyzing derivative product requirements across various markets, on-boarding and managing counterparties, vendors and new products as well as life cycle events as it relates to OTC and Listed derivative investments.  Product life cycle events include trade capture and validation, contract settlements, income entitlement, credit events, valuation practices and fee and margin calculation requirements.  Product types include exchange traded derivatives, OTC derivatives, FX contracts, and cleared swaps. 
You will be responsible for:
  • Booking of record for derivative investment transactions to ensure trade settlement, cash entitlements and forecasting, asset exposure reporting, performance measurement, reconciliations and general ledger purposes are complete and accurate.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely confirmation and settlement of derivatives investment transactions by identifying and resolving discrepancies with the traders and brokers.
  • Reviewing daily verifications between book of record and trading system for positions and transactions.  Analyze and resolve all issues on a timely basis.  Assist other employees in Financial Services in the research and explanation of external party reconciliation discrepancies.
  • Completing all portfolio and market opening requests including external party on-boarding requirements.  Oversee all the ongoing market maintenance requirements for the products invested in. 
  • Managing applicable trade activity to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements as stipulated by the ISDA/CSA agreements. 
  • Performing a variety of control checks between OMERS and counterparty records as it relates to holdings, transactions and valuations for the OTC, CCP and ETD derivatives. Co-ordinate variation and initial margin movements and ensure timely and accurate settlement.
  • Preparing management reports on subject matters relating to derivative investments including assets, income, cash flows, transaction costs and compliance monitoring. Highlight and explain any outliers and provide explanations as needed.
  • Identifying, recommending and assisting in implementing processes/controls/productivity improvements including automation of current processes.  Responsible for developing documentation to support changes proposed.
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of OMERS policies regarding sub delegation of investment authority, signing authorities, valuations and third party agreements (ISDA/CSA, Clearing Broker, Trading Agreements and Fund Agreements) and apply to daily activities to ensure compliance.
  • Enhancing and updating existing desk documentation of policy and procedures as it relates to areas of responsibility.  Assist in developing new documentation as required.
  • Maintaining strong understanding of investment products and customer needs in order to respond quickly and accurately to questions and problems that arise.
  • Providing inputs and information associated for audits and ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Fostering effective working relationships inclusive of the other teams within CMF, the investment division, OMERS investment entities, counterparties, swap providers, custodian and auditors as appropriate.
  • Participating in special projects as required.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • University degree in finance or other applicable discipline.  Working towards a professional designation including CFA, CGA and CMA.  Relevant industry courses will be an asset.
  • Experience in investment operations with comprehensive operational knowledge of derivatives instruments and hedge funds. 
  • Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills – Ability to analyze complex information, identify trends, assess risks, and make sound, data-driven recommendations.
  • Exceptional Attention to Detail – Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, high-quality work, maintain data integrity, and identify inconsistencies or issues proactively.
  • Prioritization and Time Management – Proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, adapt to changing business needs, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential to deal with all levels within the organization and external contacts.  Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Skills & Experience: 
  • Exposure to investment accounting, reporting and audit control practices.
  • Investment accounting systems experience is required. 
  • Exposure to Charles River Development (CRD) and Bloomberg would be an asset.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.
  • Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision.  Keen to learn and continuously improve processes and reports.

The expected salary range for this position is $86,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year.
