Analyst - Credit Risk Provisioning

  • You are a curious and enthusiastic individual with a passion for solving problems.
  • We are a collaborative team who are constantly finding new ways to use data to develop customer insights both for internal stakeholders and our customers.
  • Together we can harness the power of advanced analytics to make a real difference to our customers and communities

Do Work That Matters

Business Banking Risk Management (BBRM) provides specialist risk services and advice to the Business Banking division. Within BBRM, the Provisioning team is responsible for calculating Expected Credit Loss (ECL), managing Loan Impairment Expense (LIE) outcomes and providing monthly executive reporting to Business Banking leadership.

As an Analyst, you will support the delivery of provisioning, forecasting and reporting activities across the Business Banking portfolio. Working with large and complex datasets, you'll help monitor portfolio performance, investigate emerging trends and provide insights that support business and risk decision-making.

You'll join a team that values curiosity, collaboration and continuous improvement. This role offers broad exposure across provisioning, credit risk and financial reporting, while providing opportunities to contribute to strategic data, automation and visualisation initiatives that support better business outcomes.

You'll be an analytical and curious problem solver who enjoys working with data to deliver meaningful insights and outcomes. You'll be comfortable navigating complex information, building stakeholder relationships and contributing within a collaborative team environment.

See Yourself in Our Team

Be part of the team that helps CommBank make better decisions. Risk Management partners across the Group to identify, assess and manage risk, protecting our customers, strengthening the bank and enabling sustainable growth.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Provisioning, you'll work closely with stakeholders across Risk and Finance functions to support key provisioning outcomes and regulatory obligations. You'll contribute to executive reporting, external disclosures, audit engagement and process improvement initiatives while partnering with experienced risk professionals across the Group.

This is a supportive and collaborative environment where you'll have the opportunity to build your technical capability, strengthen stakeholder relationships and contribute to initiatives that improve the way the team delivers value to the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the prudent management of Business Banking Loan Loss Provisioning (LLP) and prepare monthly reporting and forecasting of LIE.
  • Analyse non-retail provisioning model outputs, identify & resolve issues, and perform General Ledger reconciliations, to support the oversight and integrity of provisioning results.
  • Assess the impact of changes to customer risk and macroeconomic factors on provisioning.
  • Contribute to external reporting including Pillar 3, profit announcement and AASB9 disclosures.
  • Respond to internal and external audit requests and stakeholder queries.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes through implementing data, automation and visualisation initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to strengthen risk outcomes and improve analytics and reporting efficiency.

We're interested in people who combine strong analytical capability with a willingness to learn, challenge existing thinking and work collaboratively to achieve shared outcomes:

  • Experience using SQL, Python or R to analyse and manipulate datasets.
  • Experience in credit risk, provisioning, capital management or a related risk discipline.
  • Experience preparing reporting, analysis or insights that support business decision-making.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with attention to detail and sound judgement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information clearly.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Data Science, Statistics, Actuarial Studies, Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Experience with IFRS9 provisioning, prudential reporting or financial reporting will be highly regarded.
